1.) \u201c\u2018Mid Valley Sports\u2019 should be renamed \u2018Mid Valley Boys Sports\u2019 as it seems that\u2019s all they report on. We\u2019re starting playoffs for Spring season sports and the front page has articles on football passing league, football linemen competitions, football all-star games, college football recruit signings, and a listing of the baseball playoff games. Meanwhile, some of the best softball in the region is being played in the Mid Valley News\u2019 backyard (Amat, Arroyo, Edgewood) and the girls just get ignored.

2.) The Los Angeles Angels sign Tim Lincecum.

4.) The Atlanta Braves, 9-28, fire manager Fredi Gonzalez.<\/p>\n

5.) Alhambra southpaw Gilbert Romero has compiled an 8-4 record, completed five games, and thrown three shutouts. In 65-innings of work he\u2019s allowed just 39 hits while striking out 88. Romero\u2019s earned run average is 1.18.<\/p>\n

6.) On this date in 1983 the New York Islanders defeated the Edmonton Oilers, 4-2, to sweep the Stanley Cup series and win their fourth consecutive NHL title.<\/p>\n

7.) Sierra Vista sophomore Mario Huizar is 8-0 with a 0.66 ERA. He\u2019s started nine games, completed four, three for shutouts. Teammate Adrian Cardenas is 7-1 with a 1.29 ERA, with 60 strikeouts against just three walks in 60-innings of work.<\/p>\n
