Robbie Keane returned to the lineup and immediately had an impact scoring the game’s first goal!<\/p><\/div>\n

(Carson) – Robbie Keane\u00a0scored\u00a0in the 12th minute and\u00a0 Jeff “Big Red” Larentowicz\u00a0added a goal early in the second half to lead the Galaxy to a 2-0 shutout\u00a0over Vancouver Monday night before a sold out Fourth of July crowd of 27, 167 at Stubhub Center.<\/p>\n

The Galaxy almost gave\u00a0up a goal\u00a0in the\u00a0tenth minute when goalkeeper Brian Rowe\u00a0failed\u00a0to clear right away\u00a0and Nicolas\u00a0Mezquida intercepted\u00a0for Vancouver and just missed the net wide left.\u00a0The Galaxy took the lead for good\u00a0two minutes later when Robbie Keane\u00a0controlled a pass from Steven Gerrard\u00a0and then\u00a0curled one\u00a0high just over the reach\u00a0of keeper David Ousted and into the back of the net.<\/p>\n

That was\u00a0Keane’s first goal for the Galaxy since May 8 and his first game with the team since May 22.\u00a0Keane and Gyasi Zardes\u00a0both\u00a0returned to the pitch\u00a0after\u00a0playing for their international teams.<\/p>\n

Later in the half, Vancouver threatened\u00a0in front of the Galaxy net as\u00a0Erik Hurtado nearly cashed in when he\u00a0got off a shot that sailed\u00a0high over the bar in the 31st minute.<\/p>\n

Ousted knocked\u00a0away a\u00a0Gerrard blast\u00a0in the 45th minute as the Galaxy maintained the\u00a01-0 lead at the\u00a0break.<\/p>\n

Larentowicz’ goal came just two minutes into the second half\u00a0as he\u00a0scored on a\u00a0header off of a perfectly placed Gerrard corner\u00a0for a 2-0 LA lead. Rowe and the\u00a0Galaxy cruised home from there.<\/p>\n

Rowe made\u00a0a big save at the other end for the Galaxy three minutes later.<\/p>\n

Nigel de Jong got\u00a0a red card in the 74th minute for a foul\u00a0on Blas Perez.\u00a0While de Jong is exiting a shirtless fan raced\u00a0out on to the pitch.\u00a0He\u00a0eluded\u00a0security momentarily before finally being tracked down.<\/p>\n

Baggio Husidic replaced\u00a0Keane in the 77th minute who exited to a loud ovation.<\/p>\n

Five minutes of extra\u00a0time were added at the end of regulation but Vancouver couldn’t get anything across despite the man advantage.<\/p>\n

Before the extra time another fan ran\u00a0on\u00a0the field and was\u00a0quickly apprehended.<\/p>\n

The Galaxy ended a\u00a0seven game winless streak with the victory as they improved to 6-3-8. The Whitecaps fell to 7-8-3.<\/p>\n

Rowe finished with four saves on the night.<\/p>\n

“We’re half way into the season now and I’d probably give us a B- on the first half, but we haven’t played our full team the whole year,” said Galaxy Coach Bruce Arena.\u00a0“Hopefully we can get through the next three or four games\u00a0and have our team in good form when August comes around.\u00a0It’s been one of those years.”<\/p>\n

Zardes and\u00a0Keane are still getting back into the groove and Robbie Rogers is still out with an injury.\u00a0de Jong will miss the next game due to the red card.<\/p>\n

Next up for the Galaxy is a trip to Seattle on Saturday to face the Sounders.<\/p>\n
