(Carson) -Steven Gerrard scored in the 66th minute and that was all the Galaxy needed to beat Houston 1-0 Friday night before 25,667 at StubHub Center.<\/p>\n

The Galaxy had a couple of opportunities early but was unable to cash in.\u00a0Robbie Keane\u00a0had a penalty kick just eight minutes in but missed it\u00a0wide right.<\/p>\n

Houston’s Collen Warner was\u00a0issued a yellow card in the 24th minute. In the\u00a027th minute Galaxy goalkeeper Brian Rowe\u00a0made\u00a0a save on a shot by the Dynamo’s Alex.<\/p>\n

Gyasi Zardes had a golden chance in the 30th minute but wasn’t able to get high enough to head in a pass from Giovani dos Santos\u00a0right in front of the net.\u00a0A Zardes cross\u00a0failed to connect with a\u00a0sliding Keane\u00a0on the right side of the goal in the 32nd minute.<\/p>\n

The teams went\u00a0into the break scoreless.<\/p>\n

A yellow card was\u00a0handed to dos Santos in the 55th minute.<\/p>\n

Rowe kept the Dynamo at bay again in the 61st minute as Giles Barnes got\u00a0by the LA defense and fired a shot on goal but Rowe was\u00a0there for the save.<\/p>\n

The Galaxy finally broke\u00a0through when Keane’s shot was\u00a0blocked\u00a0by Houston keeper Joe Willis, but Steven Gerrard followed it with a blast that sailed by Willis to break the tie.<\/p>\n

Zardes nearly put LA\u00a0up by\u00a0two goals four minutes later on a boot from the right side but Willis made the\u00a0stop.<\/p>\n

Keane got free\u00a0and scored\u00a0in the 76th minute but the goal was\u00a0nullified by an offsides call. The lineman had his flag up as Keane was firing away.<\/p>\n

Three minutes of additional time were added to the second half, but the Galaxy held on.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Galaxy improved its unbeaten streak to five with the win and it was their third consecutive shutout. Each team had just four shots on goal.<\/p>\n

“We played well enough to get three points, not\u00a0our best game. I think we made things a little difficult on ourselves,”\u00a0said Galaxy coach Bruce Arena. “Obviously not converting the penalty kick early in the game and there were a few other chances I thought we could have been better with. I thought defensively we played well but give Houston credit, I thought they played hard.”<\/p>\n

With the victory the Galaxy improved to\u00a08-3-8 while the Dynamo fell to 4-9-6.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
