Steven Comstock\u00a0enters his third year as the Vikings quarterback and wide receiver\u00a0Antwaun Ayers is back as well.\u00a0Head Coach Marcel Perez has something special\u00a0going on\u00a0at Northview\u00a0as\u00a0their schedule shows it\u00a0with quality opponents\u00a0like Charter Oak and Pomona. A win over the\u00a0Chargers, however might be too much to ask. Receiver\u00a0Brian Casteel, a D1 prospect, is a threat on the outside and Charter Oak as usual is loaded at most other positions as well.\u00a0Northview will compete, maybe even into the fourth quarter but in the end, the Chargers prevail.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charter Oak 31 Northview 24<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Friday, August 26\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>El Monte at Montebello<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Lions have a new coach, a new quarterback and at least for this game some new problems. The Oilers are the Almont League favorites\u00a0while El Monte may struggle to make the playoffs while trying to get out of the MVL. Thank you Captain Obvious. Not many teams\u00a0will be as good as the juggernaut that was San Marino\u00a0in 2015. Expect Blake Cabot to pick up where\u00a0Carson Glazier left off behind center and although Glazier, JP Shohfi and\u00a0the bulk of the Titans have graduated\u00a0RB\/S Michael Chan, maybe San Marino&#8217;s best player, is back.\u00a0Los Altos is trying to bounce back from a disappointing 5-5 season a year ago.\u00a0Tyler\u00a0Nevens leads a strong running attack and the word is the Conquerors are once again strong along the lines.\u00a0Nobody gets blown out in this one. Los Altos, with too much Nevens,\u00a0has enough in the fourth quarter to win close.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Los Altos\u00a024 San Marino 21 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>*** \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cal at Schurr<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Condors return Evan Barrajas and Andrew Reyes on the offensive side of the ball and they will be expected to provide the leadership needed to get back to the top of the Del Rio. The Spartans will feature Noah Rangel in the backfield and head coach Dave Ramos is anticipating a big season from the senior running back. Miguel Aguero will call the signals for Schurr behind a young offensive line. The game will be close as both teams will need time to get into a rythm. In the end, the senior laden Condors will come out on top.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cal 20 Schurr 14<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p><strong>South Pasadena at Rosemead<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Tigers are looking to build on 2015 8-3 finish and return Jalen Ross who did a little bit of everything for South Pas. At quarterback Adam Arellano returns after splitting time last year running the show. Rosemead will be breaking in a new signal caller for 2016 and Isaia Ah-Hing is looking like he will be the one. Defense has always been a big part of Panther pride and Carlos Alvarez is the leading returning tackler. It might take a quarter or two for Rosemead to find its identity offensively and South Pas will take advantage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>South Pasadena 27 Rosemead 17<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chino at Damien<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jesse Ceniceros returns for his second year at the helm of Chino after a 9-4 2015 campaign. Gone is Da&#8217;creh West leaving a hole that Andrew Almazan will look to fill. A formidable Cowboy defense will be centered around Adrian Alfaro who looks more than ready. Damien will counter with Warren Bryan and Mikey Mccauley through the air while they look for someone to replace Dylan Thigpen&#8217;s 1,855 yards and 18 td&#8217;s. In the end Chino rolls.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chino 35 Damien 24<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monrovia at Burbank<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Jerry Chou era begins. Last season the Bulldogs came to M-Town and blasted the Wildcats on the field. Bank returns Guy Gibbs at quarterback, who played in 11 games and threw 14 touchdowns a year ago. We like Monrovia with its talent advantage and energy of a new staff.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monrovia 28 Burbank 13<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gladstone at South El Monte<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ted Clarke returns to the sidelines at the Gladiators head coach while Frank Gallardo begins his second full season down at The Swamp. G-Stone will remain a work in progress but the Southmen hope to exploit some openings in the Mission Valley hierarchy this fall. They should handle the Gladiators. If they don&#8217;t it could be a long season down on Durfee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>South El Monte 21 Gladstone 7<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Saturday, August 27<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Arroyo at Covina<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under Jim Singiser the Knights are 6-7 all-time in season openers. The Colts are 1-3, on the field, under Joe Brown.
