Can we avoid any “Northview sucks” comments for the time being? The Vikings were beaten by a more physical, athletic team Thursday night at Covina District Field. Charter Oak was faster, bigger and simply put, more gifted. Northview had a couple of big miscues early and it cost them. But the Vikes battled to the end and that’s what head coach Marcel Perez was looking for. Playing a team like the Chargers will only help Northview in the long run.<\/p>\n

Everyone is talking about Charger receiver Brian Casteel, rightfully so, but Jermaine Braddock on the other side may be just as good.<\/p>\n

While scheduling up is good for Northview it’s not so good for Pasadena. Not sure how a 63-7 drubbing at the hands of Buena Park helps the program. But it was a fun trip for Anthony White’s Coyotes. White took his team to Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles down the street from PHS after the game.<\/p>\n

Nice win for La Mirada over Orange Lutheran. Are Mike Moschetti’s Matadores even better than last year’s edition?<\/p>\n

I was all set to write that San Marino had no shot at beating Monrovia this year, then I saw what Burbank did to the Wildcats. The Titans have lost a ton and were completely overwhelmed by Los Altos but how do the Cats lose 33-7 to the Bulldogs? I’ll have to see a little more.<\/p>\n

What happened to West Covina? “We were tied at the half but we couldn’t tackle Tilford in the second half,” said West Covina HC Mike Maggiore. That would be Nathan\u00a0Tilford who ran wild leading Colony to a 49-14 victory. No, West Covina doesn’t suck.<\/p>\n

MVS writer Alex “Gonzo” Gonzalez likes what he saw in the Schurr Spartans. “They have a good quarterback and a sold running back” he said back at the office after the Spartans knocked off Cal 33-22 Friday night. Montebello, nine iron away, has ruled the Almont the last few years, but may have a challenge from the up and coming Spartans this year.<\/p>\n

Can Alhambra ever get back? The Moors had a shot Friday night but were stopped at the goal line as time ran out on a 10-7 loss to Western.<\/p>\n

The Smugepot still puts butts in seats. Citrus College was packed for San Dimas 42-14 rout of Bonita Friday night. Still love the rivalry, but the game should be moved to Week Five on the schedule.<\/p>\n

Another thing on Charter Oak. Who is Brett Clemetson and why\u00a0is he throwing six touchdown passes?<\/p>\n

Spoke to former Los Altos DL David Jimenez Friday night. He was excited because Montana was his first offer but he hasn’t decided where he will go yet. He is set to play this year at Mt. SAC and see what other offers are forthcoming.<\/p>\n

Former El Monte HC Joel Sanchez was seen at games Thursday and Friday night. Is his return to the sidelines imminent?<\/p>\n

Covina hosts Arroyo tonight at CDF as the Knights try to avenge last year’s playoff loss.<\/p>\n

Nice setting, great field, cool stadium…okay…but can San Marino please invest in some new lights? It makes it tough on us hard working photographers.<\/p>\n
