The Shazbat Department:<\/strong><\/span>
\nI can\u2019t believe Monrovia is 0-2, I can\u2019t believe they lost to La Salle, I can\u2019t believe they\u2019ve been outscored 70-7 to start the season.<\/p>\n

Technically the Wildcats started 0-2 in 2015 but the \u201cBig F\u201d was played and they got the forfeit win over Burbank.<\/p>\n

The last time M-Town was officially 0-2 to the start of a season was in 2001 when they fell to Chaffey (25-7) and West Covina (17-9). They finished 4-7 and were bounced in the first round of the playoffs by North Torrance (35-14).<\/p>\n

Word is La Canada has some good girth in the trenches and with the current chaos in the Rio Hondo League\u2026Some are saying (sideline people & those with axes to grind online) that the Spartans might have a shot at the RHL title.<\/p>\n

Last Add La Canada:<\/strong> They did lose to South Hills last night 12-9.<\/p>\n

No, Jim Singiser didn’t call for an onside kick in the fourth quarter against Temple City last night.<\/p>\n

With the Los Angeles Rams terminating Akeem Ayers (a close personal friend of Temple City quarterback Riley Saxon during the second round of the 2006 Mid-Valley Division playoffs), does the other outside linebacker job go to Nic Grigsby?<\/p>\n

Props to MVS staffer Duane \u201cFormerly Bad News\u201d Barker on his emphatic statement that the Rams would not cut Nelson Spruce\u2026I thought the kid had his moment in the lights and would be moving on to a career in hotel\/restaurant management. Good for him.<\/p>\n

Happy to see Austin Hill begin the rest of his life so he can MARRY the mother of his child.<\/p>\n

Last Add Hill:<\/strong> Couldn\u2019t Rams GM Les Snead pay Hill significantly less than Brian Quick to stay with the team and drop passes?<\/p>\n

Irony Department:<\/strong><\/span>
\nSo Arroyo scores the \u201cBIG F\u201d victory\u2014forfeit\u2014over Covina when the Colts discovered an ineligible player in uniform. The teams played to a 17-17 tie last Saturday night at CDF (or is it CDS?). There was a play late in the game where it was fairly clear C-Town running back Devonte Bevel didn\u2019t make it out of the end zone. The Knights weren\u2019t awarded a safety.<\/p>\n

Now, with the game forfeited\u2026Like most, the score on CalPreps & MaxPreps will likely be altered to read \u201cForfeit: Arroyo 2 Covina 0.\u201d<\/p>\n

***<\/p>\n

Last Add Monrovia:<\/strong> The last time they started a season close to this year\u2019s current point-differential of 70-7 was in 1992\u2026The head coach was Leon Ward (Yeah, Leon) and the Wildcats were outscored 72-12 to start the season. They lost to Duarte (39-6) and Bellflower (33-6).<\/p>\n

Providence smiled on them in Week Three as Hoover came to town and they won, 27-3. Transfer tailback Brian Warner (formerly of El Dorado) was declared eligible for the \u2018Cats and he rushed for 220 yards and two touchdowns.<\/p>\n

***<\/p>\n

Only Add South Hills:<\/strong> The Huskies are 1-1 under new HC Matt Bechtel but they\u2019ve been outscored 23-22 in two games.<\/p>\n

***<\/p>\n

Really Last Add Monrovia:<\/strong> The last time the Wildcats started a season 0-3 was in 1989 when they began 0-7 under Al Clegg. M-Town finished the year 1-9.<\/p>\n

***<\/p>\n

Speaking of being outscored\u2026Temple City, currently 0-2, has been outscored 92-14 to start the season.<\/p>\n

But don\u2019t stress, it\u2019s a better 0-2 start then they had in 2013 when they were outscored 99-8 in the first two weeks.<\/p>\n

A TC old-timer asked me what I thought, knowing I was around during better times\u2026I didn\u2019t give an answer\u2026I asked him what he thought.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, the school got what it wanted and we have a helluva marching band.\u201d<\/p>\n

Under The Radar & Grinding Away:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

It’s a Swamp Thang! South El Monte “Trench Mob”<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

South El Monte is 2-0 for the first time since 2011 when they opened the campaign 4-0\u2026In two games Sal Tovar has rushed for 559 yards and seven touchdowns.<\/p>\n

Behind a rejuvenated offensive line, he\u2019s rushed for 312 yards against Gladstone and 247 yards against La Puente. This week he gets to run through Walnut.<\/p>\n

***<\/p>\n

Oh, and Hoover is 2-0.<\/p>\n

Have we seen the end of Mark Sanchez? Remember when he came out after his junior season and Pete Carroll told him he was making a mistake and needed another year?<\/p>\n

Next Add Temple City:<\/strong> I\u2019m not going to comment about the marching band or be drawn into a discussion about the \u201cdark hole\u201d (as some have described it in the past) of performing arts\u2026but I will say something about the coaching staff.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know Rams HC Marc Shettleroe, I haven\u2019t interviewed Marc Shettleroe\u2026(Frankly, after 19 years I\u2019ve lost interest in the standard post-game interview\u2026that\u2019s another story.) \u2026But I will tell you this about Shettleroe and his staff\u2026I\u2019ve seen scores upon scores of blowouts and I\u2019ve never seen a staff, after all hope of winning was lost, keep coaching has hard as Shettleroe\u2019s was against Arroyo last night.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s some talent at TC (no JV team) but it looks like (looks like from my perspective) Shettleroe and his staff are having to teach football at the varsity level. The team looks like it\u2019s working hard but they don\u2019t know the game the way their ancestors in horns did.<\/p>\n

As someone who has seen high school football from the sidelines in parts of four different decades\u2026my advice to the remaining TC faithful is to be all in behind Shettleroe and his people.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t a switch in demographics that put this program on life support\u2026it was instability at the top\u2026Unless there\u2019s something I don\u2019t know (and there\u2019s always a whole lot a sportswriter does not know)\u2026I would find every way possible to support Shettleroe.<\/p>\n

***<\/p>\n

I\u2019m supposed to be excited because the Los Angeles Dodgers will be televising their last six-home games on KTLA?<\/p>\n

To me, what this sounds like is the attempt to squeeze people into signing up with Time Warner has failed. Now they\u2019re doing some public relations by showing the games and achieving the ability to make the argument that they denied nobody anything.<\/p>\n

Sorry, I\u2019m not buying\u2026Then again, I haven\u2019t bought what the Dodgers have been selling for the last three years.<\/p>\n
