(Los Angeles) –\u00a0USC jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead and went on to rout Utah State 45-7 Saturday before 62,487 at the LA Memorial Coliseum.<\/p>\n

The Trojans needed a bounce back victory after last week’s embarrassment against Alabama and Utah State was happy to oblige.<\/p>\n

Michael Pittman\u00a0blocked a punt\u00a0on Utah State’s first possession\u00a0to set up USC on the six-yard line.\u00a0Three plays later Max Browne hit JuJu Smith-Schuster for a three-yard score for a 7-0 Trojans lead.<\/p>\n

Utah State missed\u00a0a 37-yard field goal on the next series as\u00a0USC took\u00a0over again but\u00a0Matt Boermeester missed wide right on a\u00a042-yard field goal\u00a0attempt for USC. It was 7-0 at the end of one.<\/p>\n

The Trojans then went\u00a087 yards on 12 plays. Sam Darnold,\u00a0in relief of\u00a0Browne, found\u00a0Deontay Burnett on a 13-yard touchdown pass for a 14-0 advantage with 8:00 left in the second quarter.<\/p>\n

Browne returned after missing just one\u00a0series\u00a0and the\u00a0two teams exchanged\u00a0interceptions mid way through the second quarter. The Trojans then put together\u00a0a drive of nine plays, 48 yards\u00a0that was\u00a0capped by a two-yard touchdown pass from Browne\u00a0to Steven Mitchell\u00a0Jr. to make it 21-0 at the half.<\/p>\n

Browne was\u00a018 of 24 for 135 yards with two touchdowns and an interception at the break.\u00a0Darreus Rogers and Smith-Schuster\u00a0both had five catches. Rogers had\u00a059\u00a0yards and Smith-Schuster\u00a029 and a score. Justin Davis had\u00a011 carries for 52 yards on the ground.<\/p>\n

Utah State couldn’t solve the Trojans D and had\u00a0only 83 total yards in the first half.<\/p>\n

In the second half Boermeester booted a 20-yard field goal with 6:38 left in the third to cap a 78 yard drive.<\/p>\n

Adoree Jackson then\u00a0lit up the Coliseum crowd with the highlight of the day\u00a0when he returned an Aggie punt 77 yards for a touchdown later in the third.\u00a0He fielded it on the run, picked up a couple of blocks and\u00a0was off to the races. For Jackson\u00a0it was his\u00a0third punt return for a touchdown.\u00a0He had\u00a0two last year.<\/p>\n

The Aggies finally broke through\u00a0as the third quarter ended\u00a0with a six-yard TD strike from\u00a0Kent Myers to Wyatt Houston to complete\u00a0a 75-yard, 12 play march.<\/p>\n

Utah State\u00a0went for it on\u00a0fourth and two from their own 33 with over 11 minutes remaining\u00a0but Myers’\u00a0pass was\u00a0broken up giving USC the ball.\u00a0Darnold, back in at quarterback, engineered\u00a0a\u00a0five- play 33 yard drive that he finished with a 15 yard scoring strike to Smith-Schuster with 9:45\u00a0left on the clock to put the Trojans up 38-7.<\/p>\n

Aca’Cedric Ware bulled\u00a0into the end zone from two yards out to cap a nine-play 63 yard drive\u00a0with 2:44 left in the contest for the final score of the day\u00a0to make it 45-7.<\/p>\n

Browne finished the day\u00a0completing 23 of 30 for\u00a0182 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Darnold was five of seven for 62 yards and a pair of scores. Rogers and Smith-Schuster each had seven catches and Davis had\u00a070 yards rushing on\u00a016 carries.<\/p>\n

For the Aggies, Myers was 25 of 37 for 204 yards, one touchdown and a pick.\u00a0USC held Utah State to just 49 total rushing yards.<\/p>\n

Both teams are now 1-1.\u00a0The Trojans travel to Palo Alto next week to take on\u00a0Stanford.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
