(Glendora) – Azusa Pacific jumped out to a 41-7 halftime advantage and rolled to a 64-14 rout of\u00a0Simon Fraser\u00a0Saturday night at Citrus College.<\/p>\n

Simon Fraser actually scored first when the Cougars fumbled the\u00a0opening squib kickoff. The Clan cashed in\u00a0with a\u00a036-yard touchdown pass from Miles Richardson to Gavin Cobb.<\/p>\n

But the Cougars scored the next 64 points\u00a0to blitz\u00a0the Canadians.<\/p>\n

Jaime Cacciatore started the onslaught by booting a\u00a038 yard field goal on the next series for APU\u00a0to make it 7-3. After Simon Fraser\u00a0botched a punt attempt the Cougars took\u00a0 advantage as Andrew Elffers\u00a0hit Brandon Jackson with a 22-yard TD strike on the first play\u00a0for a 10-7 lead.<\/p>\n

Taliuaki Suliafu picked off a pass and returned it into Simon Fraser territory on the ensuing possession. After an Elffers pass to Weston Carr\u00a0took the\u00a0Cougars down to the four yard line, Aaron Baltazar blasted\u00a0in from the two to give APU a 17-7 advantage.<\/p>\n

After the Cougars forced\u00a0Simon Fraser\u00a0to punt, Chad Jeffries, in replace of Elffers\u00a0connected with Weston Carr on an 85-yard touchdown pass. Carr caught the ball over the middle shook off a tackler and was off to the races.<\/p>\n

On the next series Jeffries struck\u00a0again as he found\u00a0Jackson\u00a0for 28 yards for a 31-7 lead with 8:51 left in the first half.<\/p>\n

The Cougar D caused\u00a0another\u00a0turnover on an interception by LeAndre Jefferson and took\u00a0over at the Clan 19. The Simon Fraser defense stiffened however and the Cougs settled for a 42-yard\u00a0Cacciatore field goal.<\/p>\n

The Cougars\u00a0added seven more\u00a0with 54 ticks left in the first half\u00a0when Jeffries rifled a 35-yard strike to Jackson\u00a0for a score. For Jackson it was\u00a0his third touchdown of the night.<\/p>\n

In the third quarter APU blocked a punt and Kenny Norton fell on it\u00a0in the end some to make it\u00a048-7.<\/p>\n

On the next series Elffers connected with Darrell\u00a0Adams\u00a0Jr.\u00a0for a 34-yard touchdown and the Cougars\u00a0surpassed the 50 mark\u00a0as the scoreboard read\u00a055-7.<\/p>\n

Josiah Thropay joined the party with a 22-yard touchdown reception from\u00a0Elffers with 1:45 left in the third quarter\u00a0to make it 62-7.<\/p>\n

On the next series a penalty knocked Simon Fraser back to the two yard line\u00a0and then the Clan was\u00a0caught in their own\u00a0endzone by Jefferson for a safety.<\/p>\n

Simon Fraser snapped\u00a0APU’s 64 point run\u00a0with a Richardson 36-yard\u00a0touchdown pass early in the fourth to make it 64-14.<\/p>\n

Elffers (12-16-168) and Jeffries (6-11-188) each threw three touchdown passes\u00a0and combined for 356 yards through the air.<\/p>\n

Jackson caught\u00a0five passes for\u00a0106 yards and three scores and Carr hauled in three for 120 yards and\u00a0a touchdown. Ethan\u00a0Zeidler\u00a0added four catches for 67 yards.<\/p>\n

“I’m proud of the guys on defense and they way they responded\u00a0and the offense took control of things,” said Azusa Pacific head coach Victor Santa Cruz. “I’m really excited how the passing game opened up tonight, and also\u00a0I thought we got a chance to play a lot of people which is good.”<\/p>\n

The Cougars remain undefeated on the season at 4-0 while Simon Fraser\u00a0(0-4) is still searching for its first victory.<\/p>\n
