Montebello (5-1) at Schurr (4-2)<\/strong><\/p>\n

After all of the talking, blogging, and trash talking , the game\u00a0is finally here. It will be nice to see\u00a0it finally settled on the field instead of\u00a0behind a computer.\u00a0The Oilers have only stumbled once all year – at St. Paul in Week One\u00a0while Schurr has\u00a0lost twice. The\u00a0Spartans\u00a0falling to West Covina was understandable but\u00a0the loss to Whittier two weeks ago was hard to swallow for the Spartan faithful.\u00a0Schurr is definitely\u00a0on the rise under head coach David Ramos. The Spartans pummeled El Monte and San Marino in consecutive weeks by the combined score\u00a0of 86-13. Montebello\u00a0has shown signs of\u00a0a potent offense as well dropping 40 on El Monte, 41 on Azusa and 34 on Cantwell. The Oilers defense has been stout as well and that my prove to be the difference.\u00a0Both teams\u00a0will have trouble getting on track early. It might be tied at the half\u00a0or just a three point game.\u00a0But eventually the Oiler defense will make a play and the offense will do enough for the victory.\u00a0Montebello by ten.<\/p>\n

Cathedral (6-0) at La Salle (4-2) <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Phantoms just keep rolling along.\u00a0Some people thought\u00a0St. Paul would give them a game and Cathedral beat them 40-0.\u00a0Rest assured\u00a0La Salle won’t lose 40-0.\u00a0The Lancers gave St. Francis all it could handle\u00a0last week. A break here or there and they could have pulled it off. But the reality is the good teams make their own breaks\u00a0and Cathedral,\u00a0like St. Francis is a good team. If the Phantoms can control\u00a0Amon Milliner\u00a0they should win.\u00a0Last week Milliner went for 259 and three touchdowns but La Salle still fell short. Milliner will get his but La Salle needs somebody else to step up\u00a0especially on offense. Cathedral has plenty of different weapons\u00a0in its arsenal. Andrew Tovar and Bryce Tovar have combined to throw for over 2000 yards and Jamire Calvin and Arex Flemings\u00a0have over 1200 yards 16 touchdowns receiving. The Lancer defense might not be up to what\u00a0the Phantoms are going to bring.\u00a0Cathedral\u00a0simply has too much.<\/p>\n

South El Monte (5-1) at Rosemead (2-5)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Big game for the Southmen\u00a0as they are out to prove they are the second best team in the MVL.\u00a0The Eagles\u00a0lost to Arroyo last week but if they can beat Rosemead they should\u00a0be able to run the rest of the league table and take home second place.\u00a0The Panthers are in the same boat. They also fell short of the Knights\u00a0but have bounced back to win their last two and\u00a0need a win here. Rosemead’s\u00a0defense\u00a0has been susceptible. The Panthers have twice\u00a0allowed opponents to score over 40 points. South will pound Sal Tovar, who has now accumulated over 1400 yards rushing and\u00a019 touchdowns, until Rosemead\u00a0can stop him.\u00a0That’s a tall order for the Panthers.\u00a0South gets it done.<\/p>\n

Charter Oak (6-0, 1-0) at Chino (4-2, 1-0)<\/strong><\/p>\n

There is no doubt the Chargers have big playmakers on offense and can move up and down the field with Brain Casteel and Jermaine Braddock. What may be underrated is the defense led by Joseph Romero who have held opponents to an average of 15 ppg. On the other side the Cowboys will pound the ball and then pound it some more and wear teams out as shown by Andrew Almazan\u2019s 1,200 yards rushing. In the end, Charter Oak\u2019s defense will find a way to contain Chino.<\/p>\n

Arcadia (6-0,3-0) at Burbank (4-2, 3-0)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Both of these teams will have a date with Crescenta Valley down the road but the winner of this one could end taking all the marbles in the Pacific. The Apache defense led by Clayton Burnett is allowing only 13 points per game and the offense is clicking. It\u2019s been a balanced attack of offense for the Bulldogs averaging 179 yards passing and 176 yards rushing. Home field advantage for Burbank will be the difference.<\/p>\n

Salesian (5-1, 1-0) at St. Francis (6-0, 1-0)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Six teams have tried to find any weaknesses in the Golden Knights\u2019 armor and six teams have come up empty. The Mustangs have probably the quietest 5-1 record in the Angelus League led by Robbie Blosser\u2019s 1,870 yards and 25 touchdowns passing. This will be the biggest test the St. Francis secondary has seen this year.<\/p>\n

West Covina (3-3) at Diamond Ranch (3-3) <\/strong><\/p>\n

Both teams need a victory after falling in their league openers. The Bulldogs gave Charter Oak a scare while Panthers lost to Los Altos. The teams have a common opponent in South Hills. West Covina thumped the Huskies 35-8 while D Ranch struggled to a 14-7 win in Zero Week. The Bulldogs have a strong ground attack which could be too much for the Panthers. In the end Westco will wear them down.<\/p>\n

South Pasadena (5-1) at La Canada (3-3) <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Tigers have been rolling along but they need a win here to show they are legitimate contenders for the Rio Hondo crown. The Spartans fought but fell short last week against Monrovia and a defeat here could knock them out of playoff contention. It looks like its South Pasadena’s year. It’s hard to see the Tigers let La Canada get in their way. South Pas gets the W.<\/p>\n
