(Pasadena) –\u00a0In a game marred by penalties and miscues\u00a0Cathedral did just enough\u00a0to beat\u00a0La Salle 17-0\u00a0Friday night\u00a0in an Angelus League\u00a0contest. <\/p>\n

The Cathedral\u00a0defense did it’s part in shutting down\u00a0La Salle and\u00a0running back Amon Milliner. The offense put the game\u00a0away\u00a0in the fourth quarter\u00a0with ten points. The Phantoms led only 7-0 at the half before a field goal and a touchdown pass from freshman\u00a0Bryce Young\u00a0in the fourth.<\/p>\n

Let’s start with the penalties and get that out of the way. Cathedral was flagged 17 times for 135 yards\u00a0while La Salle\u00a0was penalized\u00a0ten times for 90 yards. Both teams were frustrated throughout the contest\u00a0having\u00a0drives halted in the red zone.<\/p>\n

After a scoreless first quarter\u00a0the Phantoms finally broke through in the second quarter when Cathedral took advantage when La Salle\u00a0muffed the\u00a0punt reception. The Phantoms\u00a0recovered the fumble at the Lancer 32. Two plays later,\u00a0Young hit Jamire Calvin\u00a0in the end zone for a 15-yard score.<\/p>\n

Cathedral took the 7-0 lead into the half.<\/p>\n

Neither team could muster any points in the third quarter. In the fourth the Cathedral D set up the final score. Cedric Jones intercepted a pass and returned it\u00a0down to the La Salle 14. From there Young connected with Izaiah\u00a0Adams for an eight-yard score to make it 17-0. 90 seconds earlier seconds earlier\u00a0Jose Nunez booted a 35-yard field goal\u00a0to push the Phantom lead to double digits.<\/p>\n

Cathedral HC Kevin Pearson\u00a0rotated his quarterbacks\u00a0with Young and senior\u00a0Andrew Tovar. Young\u00a0completed 8 of 9 for 111 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Tovar was 9 of 15 for 90 yards. Calvin was the go to guy with 11 receptions for 140 yards and a score.\u00a0The Phantoms had just 85 yards on the ground.<\/p>\n

La Salle turned the ball\u00a0over three times\u00a0with an interception and two fumbles.\u00a0Milliner, who had 259 yards rushing\u00a0last week against St. Francis\u00a0had 125 yards on\u00a027 carries.\u00a0Jake\u00a0Caan had just 48 yards passing for the Lancers.<\/p>\n

The Lancers\u00a0punted six times\u00a0on the night and turned the ball over on its other two possessions.<\/p>\n

With the victory Cathedral remains perfect on the season\u00a0at 7-0 and 2-0 in league while\u00a0La Salle fell to 4-3 and 0-2.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
