I mean we all saw what happened to Jonathan Broxton in Philadelphia…but they’ve been eased with the signing of Eric Gagne to a minor league contract.

That was a close shave.

Did you know Muir defensive tackle Danny Huerta, according to those in the know, may be the only Mustang player to start every game from his freshman season on? Mr Nasty in the trenches has started 33 consecutive games his first three seasons. The player one coach calls the heart and soul of the team is excellent in the classroom and should be playing college ball in the fall of 2011.

In 2010 Huerta is expected to be wrapping up runners in the Pacific League.

Got home from the El Monte game last night, raced to the table, wolfed dinner…and then went to the sofa, took the remote, clicked on “playlist”…and watched “Survivor: Heroes Vs. Villains”.

I forgot the Lakers were even playing last night…How did Goodrich do against Charlie Scott? Kermit slug anybody?

May not have been the best of all nights for the Lady Lions (that was a very good Irvine team they faced last night), but even though they were outgunned they never quit. Tiana Stovall has game and Sandra Gutierrez showed a lot of class on what certainly must have been a frustrating evening.

The record setting shot blocker was constantly swimming in a sea of hands, limbs, and bodies but never stopped working. The El Monte faithful need to appreciate that about Gutierrez and her teammates.

“I was very proud of the effort. Tiana Stovall could barely walk the last 10 days after a back injury against Gabrielino and she really gutted it out and showed the character of our team,” said EM HC Brian Tabatabai. “I believe Sandra showed her ability to play at the next level. Her play against Kristen Liddle, who has signed a full Division 1 scholarship, was something that I hope garners her an offer at the highest level.

“The program is growing and this senior class has built a strong foundation. What Mike (Gorball) has done at Arroyo has been our model and we hope to continue to achieve at the high standard that his program has set.”

Does anybody out there like “Survivor”?…and NO, I’m not talking about the band.

Correction: My bad I thought Tracy McGrady got traded to the Sacramento Kings…It was actually worse than that, it was the New York Knicks.

You know, way back in the day, the Knicks were my second favorite team after the Lakers. True, I’ve got the Bernard King Jersey to prove it.

Last Note Gagne: How come it’s not pronounced Gag-Knee?

“I’m telling you Eric Podley is the most underrated coach around,” said former Glendale and San Dimas football HC Ted Clarke. “He’s done a lot at Bonita.

Clarke, currently the head wrestling coach at El Monte, is still deeply interested in coaching football. Expect him to surface real soon.

Speaking of Bonita (we’ll break down some of their returners tomorrow) its adjusted non-league schedule looks like this: San Dimas, Claremont, Santa Fe, and Baldwin Park.

Then the Bearcats began a death march through the Hacienda/Miramonte/San Antonio Hybrid League, which includes; Walnut, Westco, Rowland, and Diamond Ranch. The weak sisters in this league are Los Altos and Diamond Bar. While those schools are struggling they are hardly Keppel and Blair.

Final Note Bearcats: Quarterback Garrett Pendleton, who took way too much criticism a year ago, has all the dimensions—size & strength—really heated up down the stretch in 2009. He is the best pure passer returning to the Hybrid League.

…Of course somebody might want to make a case for Diamond Bar quarterback Andrew Cameron.

Just for fun: The Chicago Bears have raised ticket prices. Non-club seating ranges from 68 to 125 dollars per game. I went to my first Rams game when I was ten, in fact it was on my birthday. It cost my brother four bucks to take us to the Times-Charity game in 1974.

Of course, since it was the Coliseum we had a pair of binoculars and between plays we’d look to our left and right to the corners of the closed in of the stadium and salivate: “Man, those are eight dollar seats.”

Stay thirsty my friends…

217

Fanview Lite appears Monday thru Saturday at www.midvalleysports.com

Fanview, the HD version, appears every Tuesday at www.midvalleynewsonline.com

[6
2148,296,2146,2149,715,714,1636,2006,2147,2007
post-5680","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-fanview","tag-andrew-cameron","tag-brian-tabatabai","tag-danny-huerta","tag-diamond-bar","tag-eric-podley","tag-garrett-pendleton","tag-mike-gorball","tag-sandra-gutierrez","tag-ted-clarke","tag-tiana-stovall
["GET
