So apparently the requirement to step down as head coach\u00a0is your team has to lose in the CIF Finals.\u00a0Dale Ziola of Los Altos, Mike Moschetti at La Mirada\u00a0and Burbank’s\u00a0Richard Broussard all fell in the final game and resigned\u00a0the next week.<\/p>\n

So that must mean\u00a0Jim Singiser is staying\u00a0since Arroyo\u00a0won its CIF Final. With Arroyo taking the Division 12 title\u00a0in dramatic fashion with the win over Rancho Mirage\u00a0I’ll\u00a0still keep my\u00a0eye out. With sophomore quarterback Ernesto\u00a0Camacho under center for the next two years the Knights will be fine offensively\u00a0and, heck, why not try to make it\u00a0back to back titles? One is great\u00a0but a repeat would be\u00a0unprecedented at Arroyo.<\/p>\n

If you told me back in August that this would be Singiser’s\u00a0last year at the helm, I would have tended to agree.\u00a0I mean, coaches simply burn out and this was\u00a0his 14th season.\u00a0But\u00a0when you have a shot at\u00a0something special\u00a0you go for it. I\u00a0say he’s staying.<\/p>\n

**<\/p>\n

I\u00a0got a small wager,\u00a0I guess it’s a wager, with “anonymous”\u00a0that he has to admit he’s dead\u00a0wrong when Anthony White\u00a0doesn’t take another coaching gig this year.\u00a0His feeling is that the\u00a0“Family” thing that White threw out there upon his resignation at Buena Park is\u00a0all a croc and that White will land on somebody else’s sideline very soon.\u00a0If he does take a coaching job\u00a0I have to state publicly that I was “dead” wrong.\u00a0I’ll confess when I first heard the rumors of White’s departure\u00a0I thought he was headed\u00a0to\u00a0college as an assistant. Maybe a D-1 job\u00a0at Utah, his alma mater, or another\u00a0college that would obviously be a promotion\u00a0in his coaching career. But when White said\u00a0“I’m not stepping down but stepping up as a father and a husband” I was convinced\u00a0he wasn’t going anywhere.\u00a0You don’t make a statement like that if another coaching job is imminent.<\/p>\n

I’m sure he will coach again-maybe\u00a0in a couple of years or so – but for right now he’s taking time off. You can count on it.<\/p>\n

Who takes over at Buena Park?\u00a0The search is on and word is that current OC Jude Oliva is definitely in the mix.<\/p>\n

**<\/p>\n

\"tdchristmas1\"<\/a>The old Mid-Valley Division is looking\u00a0good right now.\u00a0Sierra Canyon (Division 2-A) and Paraclete\u00a0(Division 3-AA) both former Mid-Valley members, won State championships\u00a0Saturday night\u00a0and Arroyo won a CIF title before falling in the State Bowl\u00a0game a week ago.\u00a0People used to take\u00a0shots at the division\u00a0but it looks\u00a0pretty good to me.<\/p>\n

Nice story at Sierra Canyon with quarterback Niko Harris, out since September\u00a0with a knee injury, returning to throw for 200 yards and a touchdown\u00a0to help the Trailblazers\u00a0beat San Mateo Serra 42-40 and claim the State crown.\u00a0Oh and of course Bobby Cole ran for 220 yards and four touchdowns.<\/p>\n

They keep saying (I know, who is they?) but they keep saying Eric MacIntyre is out at El Monte and\u00a0Eric MacIntyre keeps telling me\u00a0it’s not true. So as of now Mac is back!<\/p>\n

**<\/p>\n

South El Monte’s 2016 season keeps looking better every day. The Eagles\u00a0went 11-2 overall and advanced to the CIF Division 13 semi finals\u00a0before falling\u00a0to Rancho Christian. Rancho Christian went on to win the CIF and\u00a0State\u00a0Championships.\u00a0South scored 28 points against Rancho which was the most\u00a0points scored against it\u00a0in its\u00a0post season run. South El Monte’s only other loss was to Arroyo, another CIF champion.<\/p>\n

Funny how things change.\u00a0A year ago SEM HC Frank\u00a0 Gallardo was a terrible hire and he\u00a0didn’t know what he was doing according to critics and now his name is being mentioned for other head coaching positions\u00a0including Los Altos.\u00a0Oh the\u00a0life of a high school head football coach.<\/p>\n

**<\/p>\n

I heard from West Covina head coach Mike Maggiore. No, he didn’t resign but he did tell me that the\u00a0SGV East\/West All-Star game is Friday night January 27 at 7:00 p.m. at West Covina. Montebello’s Pete Gonzalez will coach the\u00a0West and Eric Martinez of Diamond Ranch will\u00a0be the head coach of the East. There should be no shortage\u00a0of talent as there have been a record number of\u00a0nominations.<\/p>\n

I’m sure the Rams head coaching search will reach far and wide.\u00a0Josh McDaniels?\u00a0Kyle Shanahan? I don’t know…just really doesn’t get the blood pumping. I see Wardell Crutchfield is still available.<\/p>\n

**<\/p>\n

I really don’t start thinking about basketball until\u00a0football is officially over. I did get out to a game last Friday night…when does passing league start?<\/p>\n
