9. On this day in 1956 Bill Russell made his first appearance for the Boston Celtics. Russell’s long anticipated debut had been delayed by his performing with the U.S Olympic\u00a0Basketball team which won the Gold medal in Melbourne. Russell went on to win five MVP awards\u00a0and led the Celtics to 11 NBA championships.<\/p>\n
