Joey Schreiber led the Cougars and all scorers with 23 points<\/p><\/div>\n

(Glendora) – Azusa Pacific used a 12-1 run down the stretch\u00a0to beat Point Loma 81-74 Monday night\u00a0at Felix Event Center. <\/p>\n

The Cougars found themselves down\u00a073-69 with 2:02 remaining\u00a0after Sterling Somers knocked down a three pointer to cap a 10-0 Point Loma run.<\/p>\n

APU\u00a0then went on a run of its own.\u00a0Petar Kutlesic hit two free throws\u00a0and\u00a0Justin Byrd hit a free throw\u00a0then scored on a lay up off of a steal for a 74-73 Cougar lead.\u00a0\u00a0Joey Schreiber\u00a0buried a three and Corey Langerveld\u00a0knocked down two more free throws\u00a0and just like that a four point deficit was a six point Azusa Pacific lead with 27 seconds left.<\/p>\n

Two more Langerveld\u00a0free throws\u00a013 seconds later put the game on ice.<\/p>\n

Langerveld hit two early threes to get Azusa Pacific off and running to a 15-11 advantage, however\u00a0Point Loma battled back to tie it at 28 with\u00a07:05 left. The Cougars went on\u00a0a\u00a010-4 run highlighted by a steal and a jam from Langerveld to go up 38-32 with 4:23 remaining in the half.<\/p>\n

Point Loma rallied with a 9-0\u00a0run\u00a0to take a 44-43 lead at the half. Langerveld led Azusa Pacific with\u00a014 and\u00a0Kutlesic had 10.\u00a0Vince\u00a0Boumann was\u00a0the leader in the scoring column for Point Loma with 13 and Tanner Lancona scored\u00a010 in the first half.<\/p>\n

Justin Byrd had a huge lay-up off of a steal to give the Cougars the lead for good at 74-73.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Cougars used a 7-0 run early in the second half to take a 53-47 advantage four minutes in.<\/p>\n

Byrd picked up a\u00a0steal and a break away lay-up to put the Cougars up 60-50 and\u00a0APU was still up by six\u00a0with 7:43 left.<\/p>\n

Josh Rodriguez hit a driving lay up off of a steal just before Somers’ three as Point Loma\u00a0took the lead with ten straight.<\/p>\n

The Cougars then responded to get the victory.<\/p>\n

Schreiber led all scorers\u00a0with 23 for Azusa Pacific.\u00a0Schreiber hit four three pointers\u00a0on the night and also pulled down 10 rebounds.\u00a0Langerveld added 18, Kutlesic\u00a015 and\u00a0Connor Peterson scored\u00a011. For Point Loma Boumann had 19 points and 15 rebounds. Lancona and Rodriguez each had 12 and Somers pitched in 10.<\/p>\n

Azusa Pacific improved to 9-10 (4-5 in the PacWest)\u00a0while Point Loma dropped to 9-7 and 5-4.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
