(Pasadena) – Maranatha\u00a0jumped out to a 14-3 lead after one quarter\u00a0and went on to beat\u00a0Valley Christian\u00a059-50 Friday night in Olympic League action. <\/p>\n

The Minutemen led 30-18 at the half\u00a0an although Valley Christian did cut the lead to six late in the fourth\u00a0quarter, Maranatha had enough to\u00a0cross the finish line.<\/p>\n

Chris Austin scored\u00a0seven points in the first quarter and led all scorers\u00a0with 24 points. Austin knocked down\u00a0four out of five\u00a0baskets in the third quarter as\u00a0Valley Christian tried to battle back.\u00a0He scored 8 of the Minutemen 15 points in the third. Austin was the only Maranatha player in double figures. Sean Espinosa finished with seven and Jesse Elrod\u00a0had six including a rousing slam dunk in the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n

Maranatha and Valley Christian get physical on Friday night!<\/p><\/div>\n

Valley Christian didn’t make a field goal in the first quarter\u00a0while Maranatha was six for 11 from the field to take an 11 point lead.\u00a0The Crusaders actually outscored the Minutemen by two the rest of the way but were ever able to\u00a0make up the deficit.<\/p>\n

Jacob Green\u00a0scored 12 points in the fourth quarter and led Valley Christian\u00a0with 15 overall. Aaron Purnell and Gorden Boykins were also in doubles for Valley with\u00a011 and 10 respectively.<\/p>\n

The Minutemen are now in control of the Olympic League with a record of 3-0\u00a0and 9-7 overall. Valley Christian dropped to 2-2 and 12-9.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
