(West Covina) –\u00a0\u00a0Damien’s Josh Bryan hauled in two long touchdown passes to\u00a0spark the East to a 24-21\u00a0win over the West Friday night in the SGV All-Star game at West Covina High School.<\/p>\n

Bryan caught a 68-yard\u00a0TD strike from\u00a0Andrew Harrison of Montclair\u00a0on the East’s\u00a0first possession of the game for a 7-0 lead. In the\u00a0third quarter Bryan got behind the West secondary for a 57 yard catch and carry this time from Austin Zavala from Chino Hills\u00a0for a score to break a tie and give the East a 21-14 lead that it never relinquished.<\/p>\n

Bonita’s Garrett Dean added\u00a0a 22-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter which proved to be the difference.\u00a0Raeshaewn Roland of Arcadia got the West within three\u00a0points\u00a0four minutes later when he made a leaping\u00a0grab of an 11-yard Michael Bonds (St. Francis) pass in the end zone.<\/p>\n

The East could have put the game away on the next series but coughed up the ball\u00a0at the West 10 yard line.\u00a0The West behind El Rancho quarterback Adam Chandler\u00a0moved the\u00a0ball down to the\u00a0East 45 before being stopped on fourth down\u00a0when a Chandler pass fell incomplete with 1:15 left.<\/p>\n

With no West timeouts\u00a0the East took a couple of knees to end it.<\/p>\n

Mid way through the\u00a0first quarter\u00a0the East was up two scores.\u00a0They went up 14-0\u00a0when Jarel Sykes of San Dimas capped a\u00a0short drive with a one-yard run with 6:14 left in the first. The score was set up by\u00a0a 31-yard run by Northview’s Kevin Thomas. The West cut it to 14-7\u00a0with 16 seconds left in the quarter when La Salle running back\u00a0Amon Milliner took a pass out of the backfield from\u00a0Bonds and rumbled 49 yards for the score.<\/p>\n

The West got even\u00a0with 3:11\u00a0remaining in the\u00a0second quarter when Chandler finished a 66-yard drive with a one-yard run. the drive was aided by two pass interference penalties. The teams went into the break tied at 14. Bryan’s big play early in the third quarter put the East up for good.<\/p>\n

Bryan earned MVP honors for the\u00a0East for his effort.\u00a0Chandler took home the MVP\u00a0award for the West while the East’s\u00a0Hugo Esqueda of Upland won lineman\u00a0of the game.<\/p>\n

Sykes had 11 carries for 77 yards and\u00a0a touchdown to lead the East while Thomas finished with\u00a0six carries for 46 yards on the ground.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
