(Glendora)-\u00a0Chaminade used a 13-3 run\u00a0to break it open in the second half and went on to beat Azusa Pacific 83-71 Monday night at Felix Event Center.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The game\u00a0was tied at 35 at the half\u00a0but Chaminade moved out to a 55-50 advantage with just under 11 minutes left. Then consecutive threes by\u00a0Dantley Walker sparked the\u00a013-3 blitz and a five point lead was suddenly 15 at 68-53.\u00a0The Cougars never could recover\u00a0and fell by 12.<\/p>\n

Azusa Pacific led by seven early in the contest\u00a0before Chaminade\u00a0rallied.\u00a0Petar Kutlesic\u00a0had 15 for APU in the first half\u00a0but finished with just 17.\u00a0Connor Peterson\u00a0had 15 and Corey Langerveld led all scorers with 21. Langerveld was 7 of 13 from the field and 4 for 4 from the line.\u00a0Peterson hit all seven of his free throws as the Cougars missed just one overall.<\/p>\n

They also outrebounded Chaminade 46-37 but it wasn’t enough.<\/p>\n

Walker\u00a0hit three three pointers overall and finished with 11 for Chaminade. Kirin Shastri led the team with 18, Kuany Kuany\u00a0scored 15, Austin Pope had 12 while\u00a0Rohndell Goodwin put in 17 in a balanced attack. Chamnade shot\u00a040.9 percent from the field compared to 37.5 for APU and 51 percent\u00a0from three point land\u00a0to 32 percent for the Cougs. APU was just 9 of 28 from downtown.<\/p>\n

With the victory Azusa Pacific\u00a0dropped to\u00a010-13 overall and 5-8 in the PacWest while Chaminade improved to\u00a014-8 and 10-5.<\/p>\n
