They need to take control, and conditioning upon themselves, or it could very well be a lost season in 2010.

Because no one knows how long the hunt for a new HC may take.

I could keep talking Temple City football and mens fashions all day, but unfortunately there is work to be done.

Only Peterson’s keyboard and Jim Arrellanes could paint a rosie picture for Northview following a 1-9 season a year ago. Then again what hit the Vikings was in essences a perfect storm from graduation, to assistants moving on, to players health, to Arellanes health.

So everything that went wrong at N-View in 2009 might go right this fall. They will need it to because the Valle Vista might be one of the toughest league’s going.

San Dimas is the defending champ, people are nervous about James Heggins work at Baldwin Park because his program keeps improving year by year, and Covina figures to be better. Now you add Wilson and Nogales, two programs smelling the air of freedom for the first time in nearly a decade after being locked in the dungeons of their previous leagues (Miramonte & San Antonio respectively).

“I believe our tough year is behind us,” said Wilson head coach Brian Zavala. “We have a good group of players returning. A new league, a new division, it’s wide open.”

Spoke to two athletic directors in the Mid-Valley division and neither seems to have the run down on a change that would bring in the Almont and give the boot to the Olympic.

I would have loved to have seen the Almont in the Mid-Valley a long time ago, but what would it do to what’s left of the Southeast (provided its still called the ‘Southeast’)? What works about the set up for the last two years is the geography.

With Maranatha replacing Paraclete in the Olympic this fall, things have become a whole lot tighter. Maybe not as tight as the McGwire brothers, but it works.

Looking forward to working with the Minutemen and wondering how long it will be until somebody is offended by their team name.

Last Add Almont: Perhaps the “Tough Mexican League”, as Gil Ruedaflores calls it, needs to be carved up.

Last Add Temple City: “I think it is too bad he’s leaving TC,” said Arroyo football HC Jim Singiser. “He was a good guy, an honest guy. They had some bumps in the road in 2009, but I have no doubt that if he had stayed on there he could have made his own mark on TC football.”

Speaking of honesty His Arroyo Baldness took me to task about the semi-shot I took at his team’s defense:

“Well the arrogant side of me would state that if you erase the pick versus Rosemead they took back to the one yard line and the pick six we gave to MV (Mountain View), my defense only gave up six points in league last year. I’m not sure, but who was the last MVL defense to allow less than a touchdown in league?

“Right now, in hand to play on the defense: Sam Torres (DE), Vinny Martinez (DT), Mike Vasquez (LB), Anthony Flores (LB), Mike Amaya (DB), Fernie Ochoa (DB), Anthony Miller (DB). Two guys I’m most excited about are Matt Wailese’s cousins (2004 RB). These guys look legit. Both play RB/LB and are throwing plates around the weight room like they are frisbee’s. And they can really move. Samson (11th grade) 5’9/190 has already assumed a leadership role within the team. His “little” brother Peter (9th grade) is about 5’10/190. All 3 of these guys are big, strong, smart, fast and are really good athletes. And that is really just the tip of a hopefully bigger iceberg.”

With all that said Singiser expects it to be a war again against Rosemead this fall.

Note To St. Louis Rams: Again, if a team can win a title with Trent Dilfer at quarterback… If a team can reach the Super Bowl with Rex Grossman at quarterback… and when you have multiple holes to fill, you don’t need to reach for Sam Bradford or Jimmy Clausen.

Please make the pick Ndamukong Suh…or at least Gerald McCoy.

Last Add Westco: Mike Maggiore returns a lot of talent in names like Roger Paez, an experienced quarterback in George Johnson, and the under the radar Justen Meaders.

Last Add Athletic Directors: One of the two AD’s I spoke to said they do want basketball to follow the football format for the post-season. Which means Southeast playing Southeast, and Mid-Valley playing Mid-Valley.

Makes too much sense.

Stay thirsty my friends…

221

Fanview Lite appears Monday thru Saturday at www.midvalleysports.com

Fanview, the HD version, appears every Tuesday at www.midvalleynewsonline.com

Good Morning!
