(Glendora) –\u00a0Dillon Mayashiro\u00a0threw a complete game and\u00a0Adrian Tovalin knocked in two runs to lead Azusa Pacific to a\u00a04-1 win over Dixie State Tuesday\u00a0night in the second game\u00a0of a doubleheader.<\/p>\n

With the win the Cougars\u00a0completed a sweep of the two games and\u00a0wrapped up the PacWest Conference Championship in the process.<\/p>\n

While Mayashiro was doing his thing\u00a0on the mound\u00a0Azusa Pacific got all the runs\u00a0it needed in the third inning. Nick Estrella singled to left\u00a0and stole second\u00a0and after Cam Bennett walked, Pablo O’Connor\u00a0ripped a run scoring base hit.\u00a0Tovalin then followed with the biggest hit of the game\u00a0with a two-run single to left for a 3-0 advantage.<\/p>\n

Dixie State\u00a0looked like\u00a0it would\u00a0break through in the fifth\u00a0but Tyler Mildenberg was called out at the plate when he ran over catcher Justin Gomez.<\/p>\n

Dixie\u00a0cut the Cougar lead to 3-1 in the\u00a0sixth\u00a0when Bryce Feist\u00a0belted a\u00a0solo shot to left. APU got the run back however in the\u00a0bottom of the sixth when Michael Staudinger\u00a0launched a bomb to right field for the final run of the night.<\/p>\n

Mayashiro then closed it out in the seventh and the celebration ensued.<\/p>\n

The Cougars won the first game\u00a02-0 on two O’Connor solo blasts<\/p>\n

The win left the Cougars at\u00a040-9 overall and\u00a027-8 as the\u00a0PacWest\u00a0champions.<\/p>\n

“I’m relieved, proud of the guys.\u00a0It’s the players that did it,” said APU Head Coach Paul Svagdis. “We had\u00a0two phenomenal starts. Our pitching staff has really been carrying us this year.”<\/p>\n

O’Connor has been swinging a hot bat for the Cougars.<\/p>\n

“When you’re pitching really\u00a0well against a good team that may\u00a0be all you get that day. So Pablo really picked us up there.\u00a0They’re\u00a0(Dixie State)\u00a0a really great team so we’re fortunate to get out of here today the way we did,”\u00a0Svagdis added.<\/p>\n
