San Gabriel\u00a0has yet to find a replacement for\u00a0Joe Ledesma.\u00a0There\u00a0have been plenty of names thrown around\u00a0but nobody has landed as of yet.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Jude Oliva has been mentioned,\u00a0isn&#8217;t he always? So has former Mt. View HC Frank Alonzo and former San Dimas\u00a0head coach Bill Zernickow.\u00a0Zernickow? Sorry, that&#8217;s not happening. The latest name to pop up\u00a0is former Schurr\u00a0quarterback Aaron Cantu.\u00a0Cantu, who was helping out\u00a0on the Schurr staff a couple of years ago,\u00a0has been so busy lately with\u00a0producing his &#8220;Air Show&#8221;\u00a0features\u00a0that taking\u00a0over as head coach at SG seems like a longshot.\u00a0I don&#8217;t\u00a0think it&#8217;s happening\u00a0but I didn&#8217;t think Jesse Ceniceros\u00a0would say yes to\u00a0El Monte either.<\/p>\n<p>One local coach\u00a0sent me a text saying that he heard the football program was folding.\u00a0Things have been bad\u00a0for the Matadors,\u00a0no doubt, but\u00a0San Gabriel football\u00a0folding before Keppel would be the upset of the century.\u00a0Doesn&#8217;t it seem like just yesterday that the Mats were in the finals?<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>Sal Ortiz has taken over as the new head coach at Wilson.\u00a0Ortiz was the co-coach last year at Workman and spent previous years\u00a0as the defensive coordinator and strength and conditioning coach\u00a0at his alma mater- Los Altos.\u00a0Ortiz played for Greg Gano during the Conquerors championship runs in\u00a01999 and 2000. Needless to say Ortiz has his work cut out\u00a0at Wilson.\u00a0The Wildcats went 0-9 last year including a 59-0 loss to the old alma mater.<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>Former Diamond\u00a0Ranch\u00a0head coach Roddy Layton has come over to the dark side. Layton is now doing some media work for Sportscenetv and was busy doing interviews\u00a0out at the Charter Oak Super 7 Tournament last Saturday.\u00a0It&#8217;s a perfect fit.\u00a0Layton is a natural when it comes to Media.\u00a0When I used to interview him as a coach he\u00a0was one of the best\u00a0in the area. His quotes were classic.<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>Former Covina HC Darryl Thomas is now the DC at\u00a0Upland and is coaching his son Corey who plays outside linebacker for the Highlanders. Corey Thomas,\u00a0who will be a senior in the fall is 6-1, 200 and is getting some D1 looks.<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>Sierra Canyon won&#8217;t miss a beat when it comes to quarterback.\u00a0Yes, they lost Niko Harris to graduation but when Harris was hurt last year, sophomore Jonathan Hawkins stepped in and threw for over 1800 yards and 21 touchdowns in 12 games as the Trailblazers cruised to a perfect 16-0 season. Hawkins\u00a0looked like he was\u00a0already in midseason\u00a0form at the Charter Oak Tourney.<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>Charter Oak\u00a0and Crescenta Valley both won their own tournaments on the same day &#8211; Saturday\u00a0May 20.<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0&#8220;Red Devil Shootout&#8221;\u00a0at Pomona\u00a0and the\u00a0&#8220;One Blood&#8221; Tournament are both this Saturday, June 3.\u00a0Is it too much to ask to have them\u00a0scheduled for different days? Now if Mt. View and Pomona also both win their own tournaments\u00a0then we got a\u00a0story.<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>There is a one more\u00a0All-Star game to\u00a0wrap up the 2016 campaign. The 605 game will be played next\u00a0Saturday June 3 at Richard Torres Stadium on the campus of\u00a0Pioneer High School. This year\u00a0is the 50th anniversary of the 605 All-Star Classic.\u00a0Woodie Grayson of Valley Christian\u00a0will coach the West and Ray Fenton of Los Alamitos will coach the East. What time is kickoff? 6:05 p.m. of course.<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>I almost feel obligated to watch the NBA Finals.\u00a0You got the Cavs and the Warriors\u00a0facing off for the third straight year.\u00a0You got\u00a0LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, Stephen Curry and\u00a0Kevin Durant. Will Kevin Love\u00a0continue to play well? Can\u00a0Klay Thompson break out of his shooting slump?\u00a0Will Draymond Green\u00a0get ejected again? Can Mike\u00a0Brown, now the interim coach for the Warriors, get over on his former team?\u00a0Lots of angles here to work with.\u00a0Sorry, it just doesn&#8217;t get my blood pumping.\u00a0After all\u00a0it&#8217;s the NBA. It&#8217;s a league that hasn&#8217;t got my blood pumping for the better part of the last decade.\u00a0It&#8217;s a\u00a0league where whoever hits the most threes wins.\u00a0Whatever happened to\u00a0post play? Would\u00a0Hakeem Olajuwon consider a comeback?\u00a0 Just not interested.\u00a0Send me some updates.
