(Whittier) – The East pulled away\u00a0with two third quarter touchdowns\u00a0and went on to beat the West 24-3 Saturday night in the 605 All-Star Classic\u00a0at Dick Torres Stadium\u00a0at Pioneer High.<\/p>\n

The East\u00a0led 10-3 at half before a three-yard touchdown run by\u00a0Shaun Colamonico of Edison\u00a0to cap a 60-yard drive with 3:38 left in the third made it\u00a017-3. On the next possession\u00a0Robert Corner III\u00a0of Buena Park intercepted John Buska and the East were\u00a0 business again at the West 29. Three plays later\u00a0La Habra’s\u00a0Pervis Henderson\u00a0hauled in a 35-yard strike from\u00a0Buena Park’s James Rafkin\u00a0and just like that it\u00a0was 24-3 East at the end\u00a0of three.<\/p>\n

The West had its chances. In the fourth quarter\u00a0the West recovered a fumble and took over at the East 13-yard line.\u00a0But despite an offsides penalty\u00a0on the East, the West still failed to cash in and was stopped on fourth down.<\/p>\n

After a scoreless first quarter, the East got on the board first early in the second quarter on a 46-yard field goal by\u00a0Harrison Avila of Laguna Hills. The West tied it three minutes later on a 47-yard boot by\u00a0Clay\u00a0D’Amico of Valley Christian.\u00a0D’Amico’s kick sailed through with plenty of room to spare.<\/p>\n

The East took the lead for good with just over three minutes left in the first half\u00a0when Westminster’s Josh Avila (no relation)\u00a0scored on a 15-yard TD scamper.\u00a0Avila’s touchdown came on the first play\u00a0after a shanked punt set up the East at the West 15.<\/p>\n

The East didn’t put up big offensive numbers as\u00a0Rafkin and La Mirada’s Tristan Meyer\u00a0combined to throw for 102 yards. The East had 151 yards on the ground.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony’s\u00a0John Buska V threw for\u00a095 yards and rushed for 55 for the West, but he was\u00a0hurt by\u00a0two picks.<\/p>\n
