So the Giants Barry Zito puts one in the back of the Brewers Prince Fielder and we\u2019re not even a week into spring training…Blue State must be living la vida loca just about now.<\/p>\n

Nogales with a new HC in Sebastian Hernandez, and a non-league schedule of South El Monte, Diamond Bar, Garey, Ontario, could be a fat 4-0 when Valle Vista League commences…<\/p>\n

Again I\u2019ve had the name of Keith Boldin dropped in my lap as someone to keep an eye on for the Nobles…but, sorry to say, I have not seen him play…and have no background on him. I\u2019ve only been told he\u2019s very good.<\/p>\n

Nogales does get its first action in a scrimmage against La Puente on September third.<\/p>\n

Expected to compete in the Montview again this season the Warriors return talent on both sides of the ball in defensive standout Pedro Candia and the versatile Jose Perez on offense.<\/p>\n

Rohrer\u2019s team will open its season on Thursday, September ninth at El Monte.<\/p>\n

Ready to make an impact along with starting quarterback Manuel Santa Cruz are wide receivers Memo Silva (40-catches in 2009) and Juan Ceballos. On defense Sanchez returns a standout at safety in A.J. Jaramillo and a slew of linebackers led by Conner Salazar, Michael Jimenez, Justin Viescas, and Alex Gonzalez.<\/p>\n

With the bulk of the players mentioned being underclassmen, Sanchez hopes to return to the playoffs in 2010 using anchors in the trenches in Michael Bustillos and Irvin Lozano.<\/p>\n

If EM\u2019s Silva has a big year, can\u2019t you already see the headlines? \u201cMead Gets the Memo\u201d or \u201cEl Monte Sends Memo to Mission Valley\u201d… Oh yeah…and I\u2019ve got all summer to work on them.<\/p>\n

Spoke off the record with some Temple City players about the direction they are headed now and the search for a new head coach. As expected they feel in limbo.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a lot of guys who want to play college football,\u201d one player said. \u201cIt\u2019s hard right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lost in the shuffle of the TC saga is the pending graduation of Max Ruckle. After two outstanding seasons carrying the ball, Ruckle is still talking to schools and looking for the right fit.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost of the schools are looking at me as a slot receiver,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He\u2019ll keep us posted.<\/p>\n

So will Nick Ponce. The former Arcadia\/PCC quarterback, who has received an offer from Texas Southern but is in serious talks with Murray State. The University of Massachusetts is also in the mix.<\/p>\n

If Antonio Cromartie\u2019s head is on straight then the Jets practically stole him from the Chargers…Which is breaking the heart of my good friend Bonita Alum.<\/p>\n

I know the Angels are happy to have Hideki Matsui’s bat in the DH slot, but I was kind of hoping they\u2019d sign Chili Davis since they seem to be in the market for expensive older guys who can\u2019t run anymore.<\/p>\n
