Whittier, after falling to Sonora in the opener rebounded to beat Kennedy handily last week. Montebello’s offense has been effective from opening night putting 78 points on the board in the first two weeks. The offense and defense should be dominant here. Montebello rolls.

Montebello 41 Whittier 17

Friday September 8

Hart (0-1) at Arcadia (1-1)

The Apaches looked lost last week but that happens frequently against the likes of Cathedral. Hart isn’t Cathedral, but the Indians are always a threat to win the tough Foothill League. Arcadia will compete and keep it close, maybe even into the fourth quarter. But in the end Hart comes away with the victory. The Indians have a little too much.

Hart 27 Arcadia 17

Glendora (1-1) at Charter Oak (2-0)

Last Year: Charter Oak 43-0

Big test for Glendora. If the Tartans thought Damien was rough last week wait until they get a load of the Chargers. Lou Farrar’s crew looked dominant in a Zero Week win over Northview and reached another level last week in a rout of Colony. Glendora doesn’t have the athletes or the firepower to stay with CO. The Chargers jump out early and never look back.

Charter Oak 35 Glendora 14

Covina (1-1) at Diamond Bar (0-2)

Last Year: Diamond Bar 27-7

The Kevin Argumosa era is off to a rocky start at Diamond Bar. An opening night loss to Alta Loma was understandable but when the Brahmas lost the Branding Iron last week to Walnut, eyebrows were raised. Covina fell to Arroyo, okay, but then dropped 56 on Pioneer, okay! The Colts have some offensive weapons in Nin Burns II, 464 yards passing, Erik Cuellar, 305 yards rushing and Tristan Sprague, 190 yards receiving. They should all be on display against D-Bar. Colts get it done.

Covina 31 Diamond Bar 24

Downey (1-1) at Burbank (1-1) (at Burroughs)

Last Year: Downey 7-6

The Vikings bounced back from a Zero Week thrashing to knock off Hart. Last week they actually looked like…well…like Downey. Burbank fell to Canyon last week after an impressive opening night win over Monrovia. If Downey plays its game the Vikes should prevail- just too much talent. Burbank never lays down and it will be another tough out here. Bulldogs hang around but Downey emerges with the win.

Downey 20 Burbank 13

Santa Fe (0-2) at Northview (1-1) (Covina District Field)

Last Year: Northview 44-6

Santa Fe needs to get off the schnide. This might be the wrong week to do it. Northview looked like itself again last week by crunching Rosemead after getting crunched by Charter Oak. Santa Fe should hang around, maybe even grab an early lead, however the Vikings offense will eventually have too much. Northview wins its second.

Northview 35 Santa Fe 14

El Monte (1-1) at San Marino (1-1)

Both teams got off the floor last week. El Monte outscored Southlands Christian while San Marino took care of Dominguez. The Titans also hung around Los Altos in the opener scoring 28 points. El Monte looks ready to compete, maybe even take the next step into the post season. But this night will belong to San Marino. Gee thanks Coach, we’ll do that. Yes Ernesto Camacho will be throwing the ball. Schurr has revealed a few weapons of its own so far this year with receiver Lance Babb, quarterback Miguel Aguero and all purpose player Francisco Remigio all having nice starts. Both teams can score and I’m sure they will. Almost a pick ’em game. Flip a coin.
