Sal Tovar leads the Eagles to the W.<\/p><\/div>\n

(Bellflower) The South El Monte Eagles traveled to Bellflower Thursday night to take on the Bellflower Bucanneers at Ron Yary Stadium. After a slow first half, the Eagles turned up the pressure in the second half and pillaged the Buccaneers to the tune of a 35-8 victory.<\/p>\n

The Buccaneers did get the first points on the night only not on offense. Their first points came on a tackle of South’s Sal Tovar in the endzone for a safety with 3:35 left in the first quarter.<\/p>\n

Daniel Olmos saw the endzone twice for the Eagles.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Eagles only score in the first half came on a one play drive when Tovar broke loose on a 73 yard jaunt to paydirt. Tovar finised the first half with seven carries for 92 yards and the score.<\/p>\n

South El Monte pushed their lead to 14-2 with just under seven minutes left in the third. Daniel Olmos called his own number from one yard out to cap a 10 play 72 yard drive. Olmos would score again a few minutes later to up the lead to 21-2. Olmos finished the night with 40 yards rushing and two scores.<\/p>\n

The Eagle defense was stout on Thursday night.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Eagles defense was solid giving up zero points. The only other score for Bellflower was a 91 yards kick return by J’lon Manning.<\/p>\n

Early in the final frame Tovar got his second score on a four yard run that finished of a five play 41 yard drive. At that point Tovar’s night was finished after gaining 158 yards and two touchdowns.<\/p>\n

63 yards and a touchdown for Jarvis Godinez.<\/p><\/div>\n

The final score of the night for the Southmen came with 9:16 left in the fourth. Jarvis Godinez found a hole in the Buccaneer defense and raced 54 yards to glory.<\/p>\n

The Eagles will return home and prepare for their Mission Valley League opener at The Swamp against Mountain View.<\/p>\n
