Jacob Rodriguez threw for 198 yards and two scores to lead the Dons<\/p><\/div>\n

(Pico Rivera) The Montebello Oilers traveled to Pico Rivera to to take on the El Rancho Dons at Don Memorial Stadium and found the surrounding not to their liking and got beat by the Dons to the tune of 35-7 Friday Night.<\/p>\n

Things started of well for Montebello who took the opening drive and marched 71 yards on five plays. Kris Rodriguez busted loose on a 22 yard run to paydirt to cap the drive.<\/p>\n

From there things went downhill fast for the Oilers as quarterback Gabriel Tapia turned his ankle on the opening drive and to make matters worse Montebello was on the wrong end of some very questionable calls from the officials.<\/p>\n

Marcos Weeks ground out 55 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries.<\/p><\/div>\n

With 2:21 left in the opening frame, El Rancho pulled to within a point on a seven yard run by Jacob Rodriguez. The extra point was missed leaving the Dons with a one point deficit.<\/p>\n

A couple minutes later El Rancho lit up the scoreboard again on a 35 yard pass from Rodriguez to Damien Lara. The Dons went for two and Rodriguez found David Dominguez in the corner of the endzone.<\/p>\n

With time winding down in the first half, the Dons extended their lead to 14 when Daniel Lopez who was spelling Rodriguez, found Lara who did the rest of a 57 yard scamper to the endzone.<\/p>\n

Tapia came back in in the second half for the Oilers and had his team driving but when things go bad they seem to go really bad. Inside the 5-yard line of the Dons, Tapia looking for a receiver in the corner had his pass picked off by Giovanni Navarro who returned the ball to the Montebello 40. Four plays later Rodriguez fired a 14 yard strike to Dominguez for the score.<\/p>\n

The final score of the night came on a five yard run by El Rancho’s Marcos Weeks. Steve Acuna booted through the extra point for a 35-7 advantage.<\/p>\n

The Oilers will look to get healthy this week for their match up against neighbor Cantwell-Sacred Heart. The Dons will stay at home and face Cypress.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
