(Monrovia) — Damien’s Warren Bryan and Cedric Miley combined for 469-total yards and five touchdowns in the Spartans\u00a049-7 win over Monrovia night at Monrovia High School.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Damien wasted no time putting points on the board on Friday’s contest. After a Wildcat punt, on the ensuing\u00a0drive, Miley took the handoff and dashed his way to the end zone for the 80-yard touchdown.<\/p>\n
Monrovia was able to respond on their next possession but Bryan Gomez missed the 35-yard field goal with 5 minutes left in the first quarter.<\/p>\n
Just before the first period ended, Nathan Alba capped off a six-play\u00a0drive when he punched his way into the end zone from three yards out, pushing the score to 14-0.<\/p>\n
The Spartan’s offense continued to score on big plays in the second quarter, including a Bryan 80-yard touchdown\u00a0scramble midway through the second quarter. Damien would add one more score just before intermission when Alba reached paydirt for the second time of the night, putting\u00a0the score at 28-0<\/p>\n
After intermission, the Wildcats finally put points on the board when Isacc Scott connected with Michael Washington for the 37-yard strike with 5:52 left in the quarter.<\/p>\n
Damien answered right back on their next possession when Miley bounced off tacklers for the 21-yard score.<\/p>\n
Heading into the fourth quarter, the Spartans would add two more scores before the end of the contest. Early in the final frame, Bryan dropped back and found a wide-open Jack Turner on a 44-yard passing strike.<\/p>\n
Finally, after Devin Escobedo sacked and forced Scott to fumble, Miley added his third touchdown of the night from 11 yards out.<\/p>\n
Both schools are on a bye\u00a0next week, Monrovia starts Rio Hando league on October 6 when they host South Pasadena. Damien starts Baseline league\u00a0play on October 6 when they host Chino Hills.<\/p>\n

“Monrovia had great athletes and we knew that we couldn’t come in here and take them lightly, so we told them that we’re going to keep pounding the ball,” said Bryan after the game.<\/p>\n
“Our defense did a great job keeping them out of the end zone. For the most part, we were swarming\u00a0over there to their running backs\u00a0and quarterbacks\u00a0and they\u00a0had a lot of three and outs,” said Damien HC Mark Paredes.<\/p>\n
