Arcadia’s Rolandiss Whitener had a touchdown receiving and returned a punt for a score.<\/p><\/div>\n

(Arcadia) — With 1:56 left in the fourth quarter, on 4th and 1, Arcadia’s Austin Guerra and Dhilan Judware stuffed Nathan Piper from reaching the first down, sealing the Apaches 31-26 Homecoming win Friday night at Arcadia high school.<\/p>\n

Going into the second half, Burroughs led Arcadia 23-14. However, their lead quickly was cut to two after Max Davila connected with Rolandiss Whitener on a slant route for the 50-yard touchdown with 9:54 in the third quarter.<\/p>\n

Less than two minutes later, after a botched punt by the Indians, Andre Lewis took the inside carry and dashed his way to the end zone, giving Arcadia a 28-23 lead with 8:28 in the third frame.<\/p>\n

The Indians were able to respond on their ensuing possession with a 23-yard field goal by Bryon Sandoval pushing the score to 28-26.<\/p>\n

The Apaches were able to answer right back on their\u00a0next possession with a field goal of their own with 23 seconds left to play in the quarter extending their lead by five heading into the final quarter.<\/p>\n

Throughout the final frame, Burroughs struggled to move the ball to regain the lead that it had built in\u00a0the first half. The closest that the Indian offense got was with two minutes left to play. Three straight running plays with Ben Peters only netted three yards. Two plays were lost and the third only gained 5 yards.<\/p>\n

On fourth and three, Piper tried bouncing out to the sidelines on the quarterback\u00a0sneak but he was stonewalled by Judware\u00a0and a pursuing Guerra on the 23-yard line.<\/p>\n

At the start of the contest, the Indians jumped to a quick 10-0 lead. Piper hooked up with Cerain Baker for the 24-yard TD strike to put them up 7-0. After a 33-yard field goal with 3:14 left in the first quarter the lead was 10.<\/p>\n

Arcadia responded 20 seconds later on a quick two-play drive. Unfortunately, James Forrester returned the ensuing kickoff back 90-yards. After Ludwig missed the PAT, Burroughs led 16-7.<\/p>\n

Just before intermission, both schools added touchdown drives. Burroughs extended their lead to 23-7 when Peters bullied his way into the end zone with 9:24. The Apaches followed the touchdown with Whitener returning\u00a0a punt for a score late in the second quarter.<\/p>\n
