Schurr (5-1) at Montebello (4-2) <\/strong><\/p>\n

Last Year: Montebello 14-7<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maybe the game of the week, if not the year. These two teams have been talking smack since July. The whole city of Montebello is on the edge of their collective seats. The Almont League title is on the line as well as bragging rights for the next year. Schurr blew out Garfield while Montebello lost to the same team by three. The Oilers rallied to beat Whittier by eight while Schurr stunned the Cardinals with a late touchdown by one point. The teams look similar. They both can score but have struggled at times on defense. It just seems like Schurr’s year. The Spartans look like they’re ready to break through. Schurr holds on in the fourth.<\/p>\n

Charter Oak (6-0) at Los Altos (5-1)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last Year: Los Altos 21-7<\/strong><\/p>\n

Los Altos was too physical for the Chargers last year. The Conquerors scored an early defensive touchdown on defense to set the tone and made it stand up. That was then, this is now. Charter Oak has knocked over everything in its path. The Chargers weren’t even really tested until last week in a 14-7 win over Diamond Ranch. That may have just made them mad. Los Altos is solid and Hector Spathias has done a great job in his first year at the helm. But the Chargers are on a mission to run the table. Charter Oak stays undefeated.<\/p>\n

Mission Valley <\/strong><\/p>\n

El Monte (4-2) at Arroyo (7-0) <\/strong><\/p>\n

Last Year: Arroyo 41-13<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maybe if El Monte can pound the ball and get an early score the Lions can pull…no. Who am I kidding? Arroyo’s biggest test came last week and the Knights passed with flying colors. El Monte may be called the Lions but they don’t have the horses to stay with Arroyo. They might find the endzone once or twice but their defense won’t be able to stop the Knights. Arroyo moves one step closer to a prefect regular season.<\/p>\n

Northview (4-2) vs. Covina (5-1) (Covina District Field) <\/strong><\/p>\n

Last Year: Northview 49-7<\/strong><\/p>\n

Covina gets its second big test in as many weeks with Northview. Last week the Colts cleared one big hurdle by knocking off San Dimas but can they do it back to back? Northview is on a roll. After losing to Don Lugo the Vikes have outscored their last two opponents 88-0. Steven Comstock is having another big year and when the offense gets going its tough to stop. The Colts can score and should be able to again this week. But in the end Northview scores more. Vikes win a squeaker.<\/p>\n

Rio Hondo <\/strong><\/p>\n

South Pasadena (4-3) at Temple City (3-2) <\/strong><\/p>\n

Last Year: South Pasadena 37-14\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

This would be a huge win for Temple City. The Rams, who have had the last two weeks off, could prove they’re back, at least somewhat, with a win over South Pasadena to kick off the Rio Hondo. Can you believe I picked South Pas to beat Monrovia last week? I figured it would fire up previous winless Monrovia. That it did. So if I go with the Tigers again maybe it will fire up TC. We’ll see.<\/p>\n

Pacific <\/strong><\/p>\n

Crescenta Valley (6-0) at Burroughs (3-2)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last Year: Crescenta Valley 38-9<\/strong><\/p>\n

We knew Crescenta Valley would be good this year. The Falcons haven’t disappointed winning their first six games. It was a little surprising that Pasadena scored 33 on them last week but the Falcons racked up 48 so it didn’t really matter.\u00a0 Speaking of racking up Burroughs dropped 81 on Glendale last week. The Indians could use a victory to stay in the Pacific League hunt. Of course CV is no Glendale. The Falcons are still the best in the Pacific until someone says otherwise. Crescenta Valley wins.<\/p>\n

Palomares <\/strong><\/p>\n

South Hills (4-1) at Claremont (2-4)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last Year: South Hills 45-7<\/strong><\/p>\n

South Hills has its eyes on a Palomares League title. Claremont is just another hurdle that the Huskies are certain to clear. They’re big test will come next week against Glendora. Claremont will hang around for a half…well, actually they won’t. South Hills in a rout.<\/p>\n

Angelus\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

St. Francis (6-0) at La Salle (3-3)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last Year: St. Francis 38-28<\/strong><\/p>\n

If things go according to plan, St. Francis and Cathedral will square off in Week 10 at Friedman Field for the Angelus League crown. The Golden Knights aren’t about to let La Salle spoil that matchup. La Salle isn’t bad. The Lancers did beat Muir and Arcadia and put 51 on Salesian last week, but they aren’t good enough to beat St. Francis. You can bet your stocks and Bonds on that.<\/p>\n
