Westminster (9-2, Golden West #2) at Covina (9-2, Valle Vista #1T) (Covina District Field)
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Colts are the last Valle Vista team standing. Who would have thunk it? Covina has lost only two games all year and both times they put up 28 points in losses to playoff teams Arroyo and Northview. Westminster comes to town with an identical 9-2 record and is coming off a 42-20 win over St. Genevieve. The Lions can run and pass effectively but their forte is on the ground where they racked up 3,141 yards. The Colts defense has been susceptible at times. They need to be stout against the run to advance. Covina makes the stops when needed. Colts move on.<\/p>\n

DIV 2<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cathedral (10-1, Angelus #1) at Upland (11-0, Baseline #1)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Upland has beaten everybody and it hasn’t been close. Well, Rancho Cucamonga did come within a touchdown but everything else was pretty ugly. The Scots dropped 77 on Etiwanda and 62 on Claremont. Cathedral is good too – to beat the St. Francises and La Sernas of the world, but Upland is a whole different animal. Phantoms make it interesting early but Scots pull away in the second half.<\/p>\n

DIV 3 <\/strong><\/p>\n

Charter Oak (11-0, Hacienda#1) at Westlake (8-3, Marmonte #2)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nobody has been able to stop Charter oak so far. Can Westlake? The Warriors lost three games but a couple of them were to powerhouses Calabasas and Oaks Christian and they did beat Sierra Canyon 25-7 back in August. So make no mistake Westlake can play. Quarterback Jack Kaplinski threw for over 2000 yards. But the Chargers have some formidable weapons themselves in Jermaine Braddock (794 yards receiving, 11 TD), Matt Chavez who rushed for over 1200 yards and 10 touchdowns and Jalen Palacios who threw for 26 scores and 1,818 yards. Should be a barn burner. There might be some blood spilled in this one. Charter Oak stays undefeated.<\/p>\n

San Marino (9-2, Rio Hondo #2) at Bishop Diego (10-1, Tri Valley #2)<\/strong><\/p>\n

A trip up to Santa Barbara is usually nice little get away- a mini vacation if you will, unless you’re going up there to face Bishop Diego. When it comes to football Bishop Diego is a football power. Year in and year out the Cardinals are competing for a CIF title. San Marino has had a solid year and Mike Hobbie is one of the best coaches in the business, but this is a little too much to ask. The Titans will come out fighting and may give the Cards fits early. But in the end Bishop Diego comes out on top. Too much talent.<\/p>\n

Burbank (9-2, Pacific #1) at South Hills (10-1, Palomares #1) (Covina District Field)<\/strong><\/p>\n

This looks like the best local matchup of the weekend. Burbank, like last year, continues to surprise while South Hills is having its best season since the Steve Bogan years. Should be a slugfest and could come down to a field goal in the fourth quarter. The outcome will rest on who makes the biggest plays late. The Huskies get it done in the end. South Hills advances.<\/p>\n

DIV 10 <\/strong><\/p>\n

Apple Valley (11-0, Mojave River #1) at Montebello (8-3, Almont #2T)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Good news, bad news for the Oilers. Good news is they’re at home, bad news is Apple Valley is coming to town. The Sun Devils are the number one seed for a reason. They are coming off a 75-0 win over Twentynine palms in the opening round of the playoffs. They beat Adelanto earlier in the year 77-0. Apple Valley is big, bad and at this point looks invincible. Tough draw for Montebello. Good year for the Oilers but this is the end of the line.<\/p>\n

DIV 11 <\/strong><\/p>\n

Arroyo (11-0, MVL #1) at Rancho Mirage (8-3, De Anza #2)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rancho Mirage isn’t the same team that battled Arroyo into overtime last year in the CIF FINAL. The Rattlers aren’t bad. They still finished 8-3 overall and second in the De Anza. However they did fall to Bell Gardens (5-6 overall) and lost 67-3 to a Banning team earlier this year that went 6-5. Arroyo is 11-0 and other than the South El Monte game the Knights weren’t tested in league. The Knights also knocked off playoff teams Schurr, Covina and South El Monte in the regular season. Home field advantage may work in Rancho Mirage’s favor but Arroyo still has too much firepower. Knights advance to the semis.<\/p>\n

Rancho Christian (8-3, South Valley #2) at South El Monte (10-1, MVL #2)<\/strong><\/p>\n

South El Monte gets another crack at Rancho Christian after last year’s 42-28 loss at home in the semis. Both teams like to pound it like last year. If you go to the game you may be still out in time to catch a dinner and a movie. South has Sal Tovar, who is a year stronger, and a defense that does enough. Expect a game like last year with each team trading punches. South lands the knockout blow.<\/p>\n
