The slate which has been trimmed from six to four with disolving of the San Antonio and rebirth of Hacienda League includes: Covina, Venice, South Hills, and Glendora.

WC quarterback George Johnson heads into this third season as the team’s starter. Three year starters in the Southeast include; Rowland’s Michael Ball, Burroughs’ Lucas Yanez, and Burbank’s Adam Colman who received significant playing time as sophomore playing with Kevin Hunter must be considered a three-year guy.

The big trouble for new Southeast member La Mirada is they have to replace Daniel Poncedeleon who threw 49 touchdowns passes and 5,047-yards in three years as a starter against only 15 picks.

Last Add La Mirada: Besides Poncedeleon (that’s how MaxPreps spells it) they also lose co-head coach Ollie Lynch. Lynch, who shared HC duties with Mike Moschetti, has joined the Buena Park staff.

Yeah, the same Buena Park which recently hired a guy named Anthony White to run its show.

If Flozell Adams still has some gas in the tank, teams (like the one in St. Louis) should take a look. The Alex Barron Era needs to end.

With the Redskins signing Willie Parker today, it gives new HC Mike Shanahan three options in the backfield. Clinton Portis and Larry Johnson are also in the mix.

Good news for Jason Campbell, Sam Bradford, or even Jimmy Clausen. They need a running game, and should have one if the three backs can accept a shared workload.

Clausen… Sorry, I’m not buying.

The Arizona Cardinals are however, as they purchased the services of free agent New York Jets kicker Jay Feely. Feely, signed for two years, replaces Neil Rackers.

I like Feely’s politics, but I loved the way he stepped in as the Jets punter during the post-season and did a solid job. Team guy all the way.

Kobe Bryant signed a three year extension with the Lakers that will keep him with the club through the 2013-2014 season. Whatever…

What I think is interesting, is when Kobe came to the Lakers for the 1996-1997 season Shaq was there, of course, but so were: Elden Campbell (making 7-million for the season), Corie Blount (Monrovia), Nick Van Exel, Eddie Jones (Who never found an important shot he would take), Byron Scott, and Cedric Ceballos (Ceballos was dealt to Phoenix for Robert Horry early in the season). Sitting on the pine were Sean Rooks, Rumeal Robinson, Travis Knight, and Derek Fisher. Del Harris was the HC.

The campaign ended in Salt Lake, in the second round, with Kobe launching a series of air balls from beyond the arc against the Utah Jazz. It would take three more years and the edition of Phil Jackson to get the Lakers back on championship footing.

New Los Altos football HC Jim Arellanes doesn’t want to wait as long to get things rolling for the Conquerors again. The one time power has gone a combined 8-22 the last three seasons, with no playoff appearances, under two different head coaches.

Think about this, the seniors in the Los Altos program have never experienced playoff football while they’ve been on campus. It seems almost unthinkable.

Some of the guys Arellanes is counting on to rally things are his staff; Louis Zamora from Cal High is the DC. Joe Ledesma the former OC at Chino will fill the same role at LA. Andy Guerrero DC at Montebello will serve as special teams coach and former Diamond Ranch head coach Bill Tolmachoff will run the defensive line.

Arellanes expects more additions later in the spring.

Stay thirsty my friends…

245

Fanview Lite appears Monday thru Saturday at www.midvalleysports.com

Fanview, the HD version, appears every Tuesday at www.midvalleynewsonline.com

“The Mid Valley Sports Show” is live every Tuesday (7-PM) at www.midvalleysports.com

Heads up Defensive Backs!

San Dimas football and Ralph Brown (Bishop Amat alum), who plays for the Arizona Cardinals, are teaming up to put on a Defensive Backs Camp on April 17th.
