Joe Brown: Mid Valley Sports Coach of the Year<\/p><\/div>\n

Covina did its best work in the post season. The Colts finished in a three way tie for first place in the Valle Vista League with Northview and San Dimas and then kicked it into high gear.<\/p>\n

While the Vikings and the Saints were both being knocked out of the playoffs Covina continued to win and advance under head coach Joe Brown. The Colts took care of Victor Valley and a solid Westminster team at home before traveling out to Culver City for the semi finals. In back and forth game in which the last team with the ball wins, Brown made sure it was his team that had the ball last as he went for two in overtime to win it 57-56 to propel the Colts to the CIF Finals for the first time since 1995.<\/p>\n

It wasn’t until a pass by Nin Burns II was intercepted with no time remaining on the clock that Covina was finally finished falling to Katella 55-49 in the CIF Division 11 Finals.<\/p>\n

Covina lost its first game of the season to Arroyo before rebounding to win five straight. The Colts then fell to Northview but again responded under the guidance of Brown to win their next six to appear in the Finals for the first time in 22 years.<\/p>\n

Brown pushed the right buttons all year getting the most out of the Colts time and again. Although they fell just six points short of their ultimate goal the Colts and Brown produced a season that will be remembered in Covina for decades to come.<\/p>\n
