The Vikings jumped out to a 24-7 halftime lead and cruised to a 31-7 win over Los Altos at Covina District Field.

Northview was never threatened in the contest. On a night when Canelo Alvarez won by decision over Gennady Golovkin the Vikings knocked out Los Altos.

On Northview’s first possession James Jimenez connected with Deshon Thompson on a 79-yard touchdown pass to make it 7-0.

Los Altos fumbled the ball away in its own territory on its next possessions but Northview could only manage just three points on a 28-yard Brian Calderon field goal.

The Conquerors, feeling somewhat invigorated being only down ten points instead of three touchdowns, came up with a big strike. Rene Zaldivar broke through the Northview line and rumbled 77 yards for the touchdown and suddenly, in a quarter in which Northview had completely dominated, Los Altos was only down 10-7. The Conquerors never scored again.

On the next possession Jimenez hit Deshon Thompson on a screen pass and he did the rest zig zagging his way 55 yards for six late in the first quarter to make it 17-7.

Early in the second it was Deshon’s brother Damion Thompson getting into the act by hauling in a 70-yard pitch from Jimenez for the score. The Vikings defense was stout holding Los Altos and it was 24-7 at the break.

Northview only scored one more time but that’s all that was necessary. Jimenez capped a 14-play, 60 yard drive with a three-yard run with 3:17 left in the third quarter for the 31-7 advantage.

Damion Thompson, a threat offensively and defensively, picks off a pass to halt a Los Altos drive.
