[El Monte\/Baldwin Park] Davon Booth and Abel Cueva led El Monte\u2019s 38-14 victory over Arroyo, Saturday afternoon at Baldwin Park High School.<\/p>\n

In the most anticipated MVL showdown of the year the Lions and Knights started Friday night at El Monte High School but due to thunder ended Saturday afternoon at Baldwin Park High School.<\/p>\n

Arroyo got the ball first, but El Monte\u2019s defense was able to force a three and out.<\/p>\n

The El Monte offense went to work on the third play of the game Cueva broke a 50-yard run to the 11-yard line, and Booth finished it off the next play with a touchdown run, making it 8-0 after a two-point conversion.<\/p>\n

After another three and out for the Lions defense, the Knights were able to get a turnover on downs.<\/p>\n

A personal foul roughing the kicker penalty gave Arroyo life on their next drive but would have to punt again three plays later.<\/p>\n

El Monte got the ball on the 20-yard line, Cueva went 5-yards. That\u2019s where the game was postponed for 30-minutes due to thunder and later canceled and rescheduled.<\/p>\n

The next day at Baldwin Park it didn\u2019t change much for El Monte, the Lions’ offense kept rolling. Cueva took it into paydirt from 22-yards out to make it 16-0 after another Booth two-point conversion.<\/p>\n

An Arroyo missed field goal gave the ball back to the Lions, and Ben Owsley took a trap 62-yards to the house making it 24-0 in the second quarter.<\/p>\n

The Knights got on the board their next drive when Ernesto Camacho finds Josh Arevalo wide open to make it 24-8 after their two-point conversion.<\/p>\n

El Monte answered right back this time with its pass game when Nathan Velasquez hit Booth for a 61-yard touchdown making it 30-8 after a failed two-point conversion. The Score stood that way into the half.<\/p>\n

Both teams exchanged scores the second half a Cueva TD run and Adrian Calvillo touchdown reception both in the third quarter made it 38-14.<\/p>\n

Owsley, Darlin Nkouanyep, Jonathan Silva, Ramon Ramirez, Oso Garcia, and Albert Nuno kept pressure on Camacho sacking him nine times. Nuno also came up with an interception when he read a Camacho screen.<\/p>\n

Mario Urbina was all over the field for the Knights even picking off a Velasquez pass.<\/p>\n

El Monte travels to Gabrielino next week, while Arroyo finishes off the regular season with Mountain View.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
