Whittier has had a good year but the Cardinals did fall to El Rancho a couple of weeks ago to kick off league play. The Cards won’t be able to keep up with La Serna. Just simply a case of the Lancers being too big, too strong, too fast. La Serna goes to 3-0 in league.

La Serna 45 Whittier 21

Hacienda

South Hills (8-0) at Los Altos (4-4)

South Hills is not just looking for an undefeated league run but the regular season as well. Los Altos is trying to keep its head above water. The Conquerors are 2-1 in league but the two wins have come against Walnut and 1-7 Charter Oak. The Huskies are a different animal. They had a close call last week against Diamond Ranch but have rolled over everybody else. South Hills has its eyes on a CIF title. The Huskies aren’t about to let Los Altos stand in its way. They improve to 9-0.

South Hills 35 Los Altos 17

Pacific

Muir (6-2) at Arcadia (6-2)

Arcadia looking for its sixth straight Pacific League win while Muir is coming off a tough, two-day loss Burbank. The Apaches are putting up big numbers. The 38 points they scored last week were the least amount they have put up on the last five games. They lit it up for 63 two weeks ago against Glendale. The Mustangs have been susceptible at times with both of their losses coming in league. Crescenta Valley torched them 31-7. A home crowd and the carrot of a league title will be plenty of motivation for Arcadia. The Apaches will be tested early by a tough Muir squad, but will emerge victorious.

Arcadia 31 Muir 27

Palomares

Colony (5-3) at Glendora (7-1) at Citrus College

Key Palomares League matchup. Glendora, at 3-0, can put a stranglehold on the league with a win over 2-1 Colony. The Titans could pull into a tie for the lead with a win with just one game remaining. The Tartans have lost just once all year – a week one defeat to Roosevelt. They’re coming off a big 45-14 win over Alta Loma and beat a solid Damien team in Zero Week. Colony will give Glendora all it wants. The Palomares League may be the toughest in the area. In the end the Tartans get it done. Glendora remains perfect in league.

Glendora 30 Colony 23

San Gabriel Valley

Warren (5-3) at Downey (4-4)

This game is one of the best atmospheres in high school football. It’s always a packed house and the game itself is typically competitive regardless of the team’s records. Both teams are 2-1 in the SGV League coming in with losses to Paramount. The winner will be nearly locked in to that second place spot. Warren raised some eyebrows with a win over La Serna earlier this year while Downey has a win over Hart on its resume. Downey may jump out early an may even hold an advantage late over Warren. But Warren will battle back and eventually overtake the Vikings. The Bears have been surprising people all year. They do it again in the crosstown rivalry.

Warren 34 Downey 31

Almont

Alhambra (7-1) at Bell Gardens (4-4)

Alhambra has established a little momentum now. The Moors lost the Almont League opener to Schurr but have since won two straight including a surprising comeback victory over Montebello two weeks ago. The Lancers have also won two in a row but they came against league bottom dwellers Keppel and San Gabriel. BG fell to Montebello after leading in the fourth quarter. Looks like a pick ’em game. Everybody just draw straws. Could come down to a key fourth quarter stop. Bell Gardens makes the plays when it has to and wins at home.

Bell Gardens 35 Alhambra 28

Montview

Workman (3-5) at Duarte (3-5)

Workman is coming off of a huge win over Azusa last week that planted them squarely in the Montview League race. Quarterback Ike Udengwu has thrown for 2,148 yards and 20 touchdown and rushed for 846 more. The two teams have two common opponents in Mt. View and Nogales. They both lost to Nogales but Workman beat Mt. View 31-22 while the Falcons fell to the Vikings 44-21. It should be a high scoring affair. Both teams can put them up but give them up as well. The Lobos have allowed a league high 334. They’ll give up some points again to Duarte but make the stops when necessary. Workman survives to win its third straight.

Workman 38 Duarte 35

Saturday October 20

Angelus

St. Francis (5-3) at Cathedral (6-2)

Two powerhouse programs with a lot on the table. The bottom line is this is for the Angelus League championship. Both teams are coming off big wins. Cathedral routed Crespi while St. Francis cruised by Salesian. The Golden Knights can play with anybody as they showed when they took Paraclete down to the wire. The Phantoms have two losses but those were against juggernauts in Bishop Amat and Serra. It could go either way, a toss up. I’ll go with Cathedral at the friendly confines.

Cathedral 31 St. Francis 27

[12816
10508
post-65152","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-hsfootball","tag-game-night
["GET
