This is great place to be with a great tradition.”

McFarland, who has experience coaching baseball and softball, has spent time as an assistant with Keppel, Muir, and Occidental. He also served at Minnesota State University-Moorhead and as a tight ends coach at Missouri Western before returning to California in 2009. He replaces Anthony White who accepted an offer to go to Buena Park.

Last season he led Pasadena high school to a 5-5 record, including a last second 45-41 victory over, eventual Pacific League champions, Burbank in week nine.

The hiring (technically still pending) makes McFarland the school’s third head coach in the last three years. The fourth head coach when considering Randy Backus’s suspension during the stretch run of 2008 and Tim Loya’s handling of the HC duties through the playoffs.

Previous head coaches at Temple City & Records

(Coach, years, records, & playoffs)

Chuck Piper 1955-1956 4-13-1 —

Bill Davis 1957-1959 8-16-1 —

Bob Hitchcock 1960-1981 196-41-4 35-7-1

Don Swanson 1982-1986 42-15-1 7-5-0

Jim Walker 1987-1991 39-19-2 6-4-0

Gabe Soumakian 1992-1995 25-19-1 1-4-0

Mike DiFiori 1996-1998 20-15-1 3-2-0

Mike Mooney 1999-2006 61-30-2 5-8-0

Randy Backus 2007-2008 12-12-1 3-2-0

Anthony White 2009 5-4-1 —

After 77-days in the wildnerness Temple City has offered Mike McFarland and he has accepted to become the eleventh head football coach in school history.
