Sure, the Dons lost. But they lost to a Northview team that has its sight set on a CIF title. El Rancho didn’t go away and had the ball with a chance to tie it with just over two minutes left. The Vikings knew they were in a fight. Bell Gardens got smacked by Segerstrom. The question – is Segerstrom that good or BG that bad? We’ll find out this week. El Rancho prevails.

El Rancho 34 Bell Gardens 20

Charter Oak (1-0) at Colony (0-1)

Lighting up San Marino is one thing. Colony is a different kettle of fish. Last week the Chargers had emotion and motivation on their side and rode that wave to a big victory. That might not be enough to beat Colony. Last week the Titans fell to Carter by one point and will be looking to get that bad taste out of their mouth. Colony is big, bad and loaded with talent. Charter Oak will eventually wear down. Colony gets the victory.

Colony 35 Charter Oak 21

Pasadena (1-0) at Maranatha (1-0)

Last Year: Pasadena 14-12

Pasadena may have something here. The Bulldogs looked good in the summer and then kicked things off with a three touchdown win over St. Genevieve. Head Coach Dejuan Shamburger seems to have the program going in the right direction. Maranatha, led by former NFL linebacker LaVar Arrington, beat Crean Lutheran 34-17 in the opener. The Minutemen are hoping to avenge last year’s two-point loss. Should be a good offensive show and a great atmosphere at Maranatha High School on a Friday night. Alta Loma, always a tough out in the Palomares, knocked out a good Don Lugo squad 14-6. The Wildcats will need a better performance than they had versus West Covina. If they don’t Alta Loma will take advantage.
