(Temple City) –\u00a0The Alhambra Moors overcame a slow start at Temple City on Friday night, pulling away to a 41-0 victory thanks to their running attack and a stout defense.
\nRunning backs Jose Ortiz and Issac Hernandez each scored two second-half touchdowns to lead the Moors.<\/p>\n
Ortiz carried the ball 11 times for 112 yards, and Hernandez rushed for 81 yards in 12 attempts.<\/p>\n
The Moors’ Vito Russell starred on special teams, returning a punt 65 yards for a touchdown to give Alhambra a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. And, his 35-yard kickoff return to open the second half launched a scoring drive which put the Moors ahead, 20-0.<\/p>\n
Alhambra quarterback Noah Rodriguez connected on eight of 17 passes for 88 yards, with one interception.<\/p>\n
Temple City kept the game close for almost the entire first half, utilizing a ball-control offense to limit the Moors’ offensive opportunities.<\/p>\n
The Rams ran 38 plays from scrimmage in the opening half, to only 18 plays for the Moors. \u200bBut, the Rams failed to score; the farthest they advanced was to the Alhambra 14-yard line early in the second quarter.<\/p>\n
The Moors finally extended their lead to 14-0 when they drove 77 yards and scored on a two-yard run by Henry Soto with just 36 seconds left before halftime.<\/p>\n
Alhambra scored four unanswered touchdowns in the second half to turn the game into a blowout.<\/p>\n
The Moors’ defense held the Rams to only 28 yards on the ground. Temple City quarterback Alex Vera completed just nine of 27 passes for 113 yards, and he threw three interceptions.<\/p>\n
Alhambra improved to 3-0 in nonleague play, while Temple City dropped to 1-1.<\/p>\n
