Burbank is coming off a big win over Arcadia and although they are under .500 overall the Bulldogs played a brutal non league schedule. A win for either side will put them right in the mix for a run at the Pacific title. Like we saw last week against Crescenta Valley Pasadena is good but still not a top tier team in the Pacific. Burbank holds on and gets the W.

Burbank 31 Pasadena 27

Friday September 27

Pacific

Crescenta Valley (4-0) at Burroughs (5-0)

Last Year: Crescenta Valley 28-7

Everybody says Burroughs is overlooked. They might be right. The Indians are undefeated through five games and the offense is racking up big points. I guess it’s just a case of I’ll believe it when I see it. A win here would make me a believer. Crescenta Valley is always a contender in the Pacific. Last week the Falcons knocked off a solid Pasadena team. The only problem with Burroughs is that it plays in the Pacific where there are always 4 or 5 top tier teams. Crescenta Valley is one of those teams. CV wins the battle of the unbeatens.

Crescenta Valley 27 Burroughs 20

Non League

Nogales (0-4) at Rowland (3-1)

Last Year: Rowland 27-7

Nogales is still searching for its first win after four straight losses. The Nobles have already been shut out twice. Rowland has won three of its first four and are coming off a 22-14 win over Diamond Bar. Nogales may get a win eventually but it won’t be tonight. The Raiders move to 4-1.

Rowland 24 Nogales 7

Bonita (4-0) at Covina (2-2) (Covina District Field)

Last Year: Bonita 40-33

This was a great game last year. Bonita kept scoring but Covina just wouldn’t go away. This year is a little different. The Bearcats are rolling. They’re undefeated through four games and even though they struggled at times against San Dimas in the Smudge Pot, they still racked up 35 points. Covina fights but they just don’t have the horses (Colts?) to stay with Bonita. Bearcats improve to 5-0.

Bonita 38 Covina 17

La Serna (5-0) at Warren (3-1)

Last Year: Warren 47-46

This might be the game of the week. It was an absolute barn burner last year and this year should be no different. La Serna has won its first five games while Warren has stumbled just once – to an explosive Culver City team. The Lancers have taken some heat on the boards for “not playing anybody” but they’ve also wiped those teams out. They beat Colony, a team that is traditionally strong, by two touchdowns. A win here should silence the critics. Lancers avenge last year’s one point loss.

La Serna 35 Warren 31

Arroyo (2-2) at Monrovia (4-1)

This looked like a pretty good game…back in August. Since then Arroyo has suffered some key injuries and is coming off a 42-0 loss to Rio Hondo Prep. Monrovia on the other hand is feeling pretty good about things. The Wildcats have just one loss, to a Los Altos team that is 4-1 and just beat Northview. M-Town hit Covina for 42 last week and took care of defending CIF Champion South Hills the week before. Arroyo might hit on a couple of scores with its passing attack but this will be a Wildcat night. Cats roll.

Monrovia 35 Arroyo 13

Pomona (1-4) at San Dimas (2-2)

Back in the day a San Dimas-Pomona matchup was a common occurrence in the Valle Vista League. Not so much anymore. San Dimas is coming off of a thorough 33-6 win over Colton after falling to Bonita in the Smudge Pot. However even in that defeat the Saints rallied and gave the Bearcats all that they wanted. Pomona has just one victory, a 50-0 shutout of Jordan, but has struggled otherwise. This is a game the Saints should win. They stumbled in a similar game three weeks ago against Whittier but I don’t see that happening twice. Saints win in a tune up for league play.

San Dimas 28 Pomona 7

Pioneer (3-1) at La Canada (3-2)

Last Year: Pioneer 47-13

La Canada was cruising along until a meeting with Fillmore two weeks ago and ended up on the wrong side of a 48-0 beating. The Spartans followed that up with a 47-19 loss to South El Monte. Can LC bounce back against Pioneer? The Titans have just one loss, a thrashing by Pasadena, but have managed to win three out of four. It should be a low scoring slugfest with it coming down to a big defensive play. The Spartans come up with a key play in the fourth quarter and hold on for the win. They’ll pick up some momentum heading into Rio Hondo League play next week.

La Canada 20 Pioneer 14

[12816,3
10508
post-67707","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-hsfootball","category-high-school-sports","tag-game-night
["GET
