Does a 10.5 million dollar contract mean anything in the NFL? The New England Patriots released veteran DB Shawn Springs after signing him to a three-year contract before last season.<\/p>\n

Then again Houston Texan wide receiver Andre Johnson collects 25-million of a 7-year-60-million dollar deal—has five years remaining— and now he\u00a0wants it torn up.<\/p>\n

I’m working on a\u00a010-year bi-monthly paycheck deal here at\u00a0The Mid, and to be honest I’m thinking about\u00a0holding out\u00a0this\u00a0August to see if I can get a better deal.<\/p>\n

When told El Monte was having some stadium work done, I thought it was a remodel…After hearing Lions HC Joel Sanchez explain it to me I understand now they are getting a whole new stadium.<\/p>\n

EMHS Alumni Update: Former quarterback Amilcar Archilla, who could be back on the field for Azusa Pacific this season, is back as an assistant. So is Miguel Zarate, a Univesity of Santa Barbara graduate, to coach the defensive line.<\/p>\n

Another former quarterback, Pete Velasquez (all state at ELAC in 2009), has three full ride offers on the table and is expected to make a decision very soon.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m real proud of Pete,\u201d said Sanchez. \u201cHe\u2019s come so far. Before he played for us, he had never played football before. I saw him throwing the football on campus and asked him if he wanted to play on the team. We had to show him how to put on his gear and now he\u2019s ready to play and get a full ride. Really proud.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not an alumnus yet is current quarterback, junior-to-be, Manuel Santa Cruz who threw nine touchdown passes as a sophomore. More of a pocket passer than Velasquez and Archilla, Santa Cruz will have the advantage of a set of big fellas returning up front in the form of: Michael Bustillos, Jesse Gaytan, and Irving Lozano.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Michael Jimenez returns as the teams leading rusher, while Memo Silva, Juan Ceballos, and the ultra quick Josh Woo return at receiver.<\/p>\n

The schedule is favorable for the Lions. With solid play, zero mistakes, no injuries, and a focused squad they could be 6-2, 7-1, or dare we say (Dare! Dare!) 8-0 when they face Arroyo at home game on November 5th, which will be the last game play they on campus (barring playoffs) until 2012.<\/p>\n
