{"id":6836,"date":"2010-05-20T07:26:56","date_gmt":"2010-05-20T14:26:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=6836"},"modified":"2010-05-20T18:23:49","modified_gmt":"2010-05-21T01:23:49","slug":"cif-ss-softball-playoffs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=6836","title":{"rendered":"CIF SS &#8211; Softball Playoffs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>DIVISION II &#8211; <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>California (23-6) vs Redondo Union (11-16)<\/strong> \u2013 Condors open the first round at home against Wild-card winning Seahawks.\u00a0 California swept the Del Rio League and was led by Ashley Beza (21-6) in the circle.\u00a0 The Condors have Krista Mele and Samantha Duran leading the offense with 31 RBI\u2019s combined. Redondo Union has had trouble in the circle and has a team ERA of 4.18.\u00a0 Linda Park has a team high 4 HR\u2019s and 27 RBI\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p><strong><!--more-->La Serna (12-10) @ Arlington (12-9) <\/strong>\u2013 Lancers and Lions are equally matched and it bodes well that the Del Rio League is already 1-0 in the playoffs thanks to Santa Fe.<\/p>\n<p>La Serna went 7-7 against non-league opponents, while Arlington was 2-6.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Santa Fe (12-14) @ Lakewood (23-6)<\/strong> \u2013 Chiefs reward for defeating Alta Loma in a wild-card matchup is playing the red-hot Lancers.<\/p>\n<p>Santa Fe has won four of five and Lakewood has won 11 of 12.<\/p>\n<p>Chiefs are led by Arianna Hernandez who has five triples and has scored 13 runs.\u00a0 The Lancers are led by Eliza Crawford and her 10 home runs on the season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DIVISION III<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Glendora (20-5) vs Quartz Hill (16-7)<\/strong> \u2013 The CIF-SS didn\u2019t do any favors to Sierra League Champion Tartans with an opening round game against the Rebels.<\/p>\n<p>Glendora will rely on Carly Argyle in the circle as she has been off and on the last month of the season in league.\u00a0 Argyle will need to be completely on against a Quartz Hill\u2019s team that hit 33 homers as a team.<\/p>\n<p>The Tartans will face a pitching staff that has allowed two earned runs a game and will look to Natalie Hernandez to put some pressure on the Rebels pitching staff.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Burroughs (17-8-1) vs Paso Robles (13-14)<\/strong> \u2013 Indians were one game away from perfection in the tough Pacific League only to lose to powerhouse Crescenta Valley.<\/p>\n<p>Burroughs has four pitchers that can shut teams down, but look for Heather Haynes to get the start on Thursday.\u00a0 Offensively, the Indians can rely on Shannon Trujillo and her .387 batting average.<\/p>\n<p>The Bearcats have the hot-hitting Lauren Redberg who batted .409 for the season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Crescenta Valley (18-8) @ Colton<\/strong> (19-7)- \u00a0\u00a0Both teams come into the game blazing hot as the Falcons shook off a slow start to win their last 12 games.\u00a0 The Yellowjackets won 10 of their last 11 after losing two straight.<\/p>\n<p>Colton can flat out hit with 18 homers and three players batting over .400 for the season.\u00a0 The leader of the team is Marcilena Valenzuela who hit three homers and had 25 RBI\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Crescenta Valley was supposed to have a down year after five seniors graduated to play Division I Softball.\u00a0 After struggling earlier, the Falcons found their identity and threatened Burroughs for the top spot in the Pacific. \u00a0The Falcons have Alyssa Sovereign and Erin Ashby batting over .500 and together have 74 RBI\u2019s.\u00a0 Ashby has also settled in the circle for a 13-5 record.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bonita (22-4-1) vs Kaiser (16-9) \u2013 <\/strong>The Bearcats had a successful season and easily took the Miramonte League.\u00a0 After stumbling near the end of the season by going 3-3, they managed to allow two runs in their final three games.<\/p>\n<p>Chloe Wurst went 16-3 and had 222 strikeouts to lead Bonita in pitching.\u00a0 Offensively, Jazzlyn Costa and Breeana Sandoval led the way with .441 batting averages.<\/p>\n<p>Kaiser pitching staff allows 2.26 earned runs a game and is led by Alyssa Palomino who had 19 appearances and went 8-6.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charter Oak (17-12) @ Highland (19-5) \u2013<\/strong> Charter Oak continues playing impressively by winning seven of their last eight games.\u00a0 The Chargers had to defeat La Reina 5-1 to play the Bulldogs in the First Round.<\/p>\n<p>Samantha Valadez has driven in 29 RBI\u2019s and Shyann Ramirez leads the team with a .545 batting average.<\/p>\n<p>Highland comes into the game with an 11 game winning streak.\u00a0 The Bulldogs are tough in the circle with Aryn Feickert who is 19-4 and has a 1.14 ERA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DIVISION IV<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bishop Amat (13-13) vs Rancho Alamitos (5-5) \u2013 <\/strong>Lancers have been streaky all season long.\u00a0 They finish the season winning five of six to make the playoffs.\u00a0 This is after having a losing streak of five straight games during the season.<\/p>\n<p>Jackie Carlin leads the offensive attack for Bishop Amat as she batted .312 and had 13 RBI\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DIVISION V<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Schurr (20-6) vs Western (17-6)<\/strong> \u2013 Spartans surprised many with an incredible run through the Almont League by going perfect and knocking off Keppel for league supremacy.\u00a0 All Schurr did was win 14 straight games to end the season.<\/p>\n<p>Kandace Mendez adds some pop with five homers.\u00a0 Aishia Ruiz and Monique Troncoza both are batting over .450 and have 38 runs scored combined.<\/p>\n<p>Jacklyn Zacarias leads the Spartan pitching staff with a 10-3 record.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mayfield (19-5) vs Covina (17-7) \u2013 <\/strong>Cubs took care of the Prep League by going undefeated.\u00a0 The Colts had a tough go of the Valle Vista League and stumbled near the end with losses to Northview and San Dimas.<\/p>\n<p>Covina has some muscle with Molly Ross who has seven homers and also is batting .427.<\/p>\n<p>Mayfield\u2019s pitcher Katherine Clancy has 238 strike-outs and went 18-5.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Whittier Christian (20-7) vs Rowland (12-14) \u2013<\/strong> The defending Division Champ Heralds have pushed the button and won five straight.\u00a0 The Raiders had lost three straight prior to defeating Gladstone on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The Heralds have a solid returning nucleus and are led by Courtney McGee who threw two-straight no-hitters near the end of the season.<\/p>\n<p>Rowland relies on the hitting of Mercedez Cundiff who has four homers and 26 RBI\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Valley Christian (16-8) vs Keppel (18-2) \u2013 <\/strong>The Aztecs reign on the Almont was stopped by Schurr and the Crusaders had an opportunity near the end of the season to grab the Olympic title away from Whittier Christian.<\/p>\n<p>Keppel finished the season 8-1 with a Spartan loss sandwiched in between.\u00a0 Valley Christian has won six of seven heading into the first round game.<\/p>\n<p>West Covina (18-7) vs Temple City (13-14) \u2013 Bulldogs rolled through league but had hiccups along the way with losses to Rowland and Nogales.\u00a0 Throw in their loss to Charter Oak and concern of playing down to their opponent might creep into the minds of West Covina fans.<\/p>\n<p>The Rams went 3-3 in their last six games and snuck into the playoffs as Monrovia went on a four game losing streak to end the season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>South Hills (19-7-1) vs Azusa (15-6)<\/strong> \u2013 The Huskies ended the season 8-1 and have a game-changing player in Brittany Hernandez who can spray the field or go-deep.<\/p>\n<p>The Aztecs limp into to the playoffs with a two game losing with both of those games by one run.\u00a0 They had an opportunity on the final day of the season to take the Montview and dropped an important game to Duarte.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duarte (13-6) vs Village Christian (21-5) \u2013 <\/strong>The Falcons received the #1 Montview seed on the heels of their victory over Azusa on the closing day of the season. \u00a0Their reward is a first round game against Village Christian.<\/p>\n<p>The Crusaders were the third best team in the Olympic and had to defeat Godinez to continue to play in the playoffs.\u00a0 Emily Siedel is one of the best pitchers in the Valley.<\/p>\n<p><strong>La Canada (22-4) vs Sierra Vista (12-7) \u2013 <\/strong>After dropping a game against San Marino on April 30, the Spartans have gone on a four game winning streak and have shut out their opponents.\u00a0 The scary part of the streak is they are beginning to score runs.<\/p>\n<p>The Dons have won three straight and four of their last five.\u00a0 They played spoilers to Azusa\u2019s run to the Montview league title by defeating them 7-6.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Northview @ Calvary Chapel \u2013 <\/strong>For the Vikings, pitching is not the key to victory.\u00a0 Hitting and scoring runs are as they put up 58 in their last five games (4-1).\u00a0 Their only loss was to San Dimas.<\/p>\n<p>The Eagles haven\u2019t lost since April 1 and went undefeated in league.\u00a0 In their last five games they have allowed a total of three runs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>San Dimas (18-7) vs Poly (8-8)<\/strong> \u2013 The Saints were one out away from winning the Division title last season against Whittier Christian and now are back to try and win it.\u00a0 San Dimas is out scoring their opponents 55-5 in their last five games.<\/p>\n<p>The Prep league is already 0-1 in the playoffs and the Panthers limp in with three straight losses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>San Marino (16-6) vs Costa Mesa (9-8) \u2013 <\/strong>The Titans showed the Rio Hondo that they were for real with a victory against La Canada during league play. They finished the season winning four of their last five and only allowing two runs.<\/p>\n<p>The Mustangs are a mirror image of San Marino dropping four of their last five.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DIVISION VI<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>La Salle (20-6) vs Baptist Christian (11-4)<\/strong> \u2013 The Lancers continued their dominance of the Camino Real League and are primed for another run at a Championship game.\u00a0 Allie Forillo is the team\u2019s all-time strike-out leader in the history of the school.<\/p>\n<p>The Warriors had to defeat Holy Family in a wild card game to travel all the way to Pasadena to play La Salle.\u00a0 They are 4-3 in their last seven games.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maranatha (16-11) vs Twentynine Palms (11-11)<\/strong> \u2013 Alpha League champs Minutemen easily dispatched their opponents and were on a six-game winning streak before falling to La Salle 13-1.<\/p>\n<p>The Wildcats are 2-3 in their last five games heading into their first round game.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gabrielino (7-5) vs Marymount (20-6)<\/strong> \u2013 The Eagles face the defending division champs.\u00a0 All Gabrielino did was defeat Arroyo near the end of the season to get the third spot in the Mission Valley League.<\/p>\n<p>The Eagles also have a playoff game under their belt with a 4-2 win over Bishop Diego.<\/p>\n<p>The Sailors will try and be back-to-back Division champs and are a perfect 8-0 at home.<\/p>\n<p>South El Monte (15-4) vs Mary Star \u2013 The Eagles went 14-1 in league play and scored 133 runs during the season.\u00a0 Playoff tested as they had to defeat Arroyo on the final day to grab their fifth MVL title.<\/p>\n<p>The Stars have won two straight and had to defeat Los Angeles Lutheran 2-0 in a wild card to advance to the first round.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Arroyo (18-4) vs Whitney (7-4)<\/strong> \u2013 The Knights were rolling winning 16 of their first 18 games.\u00a0 They struggled down the stretch losing two of their last four.\u00a0 The biggest loss came on the last day of the season to South El Monte for the MVL crown.<\/p>\n<p>The Wildcats are rolling winning five straight games but have given up 68 runs in nine games.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DIVISION II &#8211; California (23-6) vs Redondo Union (11-16) \u2013 Condors open the first round at home against Wild-card winning Seahawks.\u00a0 California swept the Del Rio League and was led by Ashley Beza (21-6) in the circle.\u00a0 The Condors have Krista Mele and Samantha Duran leading the offense with 31 RBI\u2019s combined.
