When Temple City missed the playoffs in 1997 they went to the final four in 1998. Do what you want with that information.

The most shafted with the recent moves of Nebraska to the Big Ten, Boise State to the Mountain West, and Colorado to the Pac 10? Missouri and Fresno State.

I feel for the Bulldogs because they were really the first of the smaller schools to push for national recognition by their play and scheduling, Boise just took it a step further. I almost wish the Pac 10 could find a soft spot for Fresno State and invite them in as well as Baylor to make it the Pac 18 or as Blackheartart suggested on our board the; Pacific West Conference

For Boise State fan and former local Lisajean Clower the Bronco Nation is thrilled: “Well, I certainly think we derseve to be there! I think we have made that prettry obvious. The fans are ready and yes excited!”

Missouri on the other hand needs a joke to help them forget how royally shafted they are. Begging to join the Big Ten, not only do they not get an invite now they are left to explain to the remnants of the Big 12 that they really didn’t mean to leave in the first place.

The Tigers are sort of in that: “Oh we’ve always been a fan of the Big 12” mode.

Are you kidding me with this World Cup stuff?

The Omelette begs me on Facebook to at least watch the England-USA match. I’ve endured Villathedevil and Dian Pucin columns that were less of a snooze-fest.

So it’s a 1-1 tie, late in the second half and I drive over to the bank, but true to my word to Omelette, I keep listening on the radio. Go inside the old Washington Mutual building, comeback out of the old Washington Mutual building, turn back on the car and catch this nugget about the great match from the announcers with these pip-squeaky English accents:

“It looks like both teams are content to play for a draw.”

“Yes it appears they are now.”

They build this thing up like the fate of the world is on the line. Make that the fate of the galaxy. All this hype, all this trumped up drama, and they settle in during the final minutes for a 1-1 tie.

In terms of a sporting event, nothing on this planet is worse than the World Cup. Thank you FIFA for helping me to recognize this every four years.

Last Note World Cup: This is for Brian Tabatabai and all of those who know how much I’ve come to loathe the NBA: I apologize. The NBA rocks!

Word I got today from a local coach on the Craig Cieslik’s departure from Bassett was the following: “He was told to let the kids that quit back on the team. He wanted them to sit a year. They told him no. He said he wanted full control or nothing. I know that there was very poor attendance, and the drive out from Riverside was too much especially for 12 to 18 kids.”

What’s it like being a defending champ?

“Well things are looking great so far. Coach Z is doing a great job preparing us for the up coming season, and all the guys can’t wait to defend our title,” said San Dimas’ Kevin Kolbeck entering into his third varsity season. “We love having all the attention as champs and can’t wait to repeat.”

What’s it like getting ready the season after coming up short in the CIF Finals?

“I myself as a senior feel a little pressured. I feel I need to perform to the best of my ability and go 110% all the time,” said Monrovia’s Charlie Cimmarusti entering into his third varsity season. “But as a team we are very excited. We get to play teams out of our division and we can show people what we can do. This is a big year for the Monrovia Wildcats but we are gonna take it one game at a time, work on the little things, and hope for the best.”

Really Last Add on World Cup: Of course word from Wolfman Salas is: “It was the familiar American grittiness that we saw today. Not sinking after going down early and continuing to pressure resulting in a lucky goal. We got lucky we tied, but England got lucky they didn’t lose.

However there is some tweaking to be done for the next two games, both by the players and the coach.”

I agree with the Wolfman on one thing; I did like the ‘Don’t Tread on Me” emblem on the USA players shirts.

Catching up with this week’s MLB Draft I saw Daniel Poncedeleon out of La Mirada was taken with the 731st pick by Tampa. Burbank shortstop Lonnie Kauppila was taken 1,325th overall by the Oakland A’s. Diamond Ranch catcher Derek Goodwin was grabbed 1,389th spot by the Milwaukee Brewers. This sort of puts my baseball career into perspective, despite countless homeruns and big numbers in church softball once you are labeled a non-prospect by the scouts nothing can ever change it.

This is the 28th consecutive year I’ve been eligible for the June Draft and I still haven’t gotten a call. Beginning to think it will never happen.

Speaking of Poncedeleon and OC football, this was the post of the day on FB: “Offically over 276 KIDS at the Buena Park football camp today… Now that is how you start rebuilding a program!!!” — Anthony White

Question: If you’re Peyton Manning, and you made all the dough you’ve made, but you want another title…wouldn’t it be wise to ask for a contract that allows the Indianapolis Colts to keep the rest of the team in place around you?

This isn’t about not taking all the dough you can while you can, but something to consider when you’ve made a lot of dough already and are working very intentionally on a legacy.

On top of that Manning is going to continue to get billions in endorsements, book deals, and when he starts his color analyst career.

If I’m a player at USC…I sue the NCAA. Why should I be punished for what someone else did?

Does the NCAA get put on probation when it reproduces the images and likeness of these athletes when selling jerseys or promoting video games?

When does the NHL start working out again…August?

Stay thirsty my friends…

282

Fanview Lite appears most days Monday thru Saturday at www.midvalleysports.com

Fanview, the HD version, appears every Tuesday at www.midvalleynewsonline.com

“The Mid Valley Sports Show” is live every Tuesday night (7-9:PM) at www.midvalleysports.com

FaithView appears every Friday in Notes on Joe T.’s Facebook page

[6

post-7196","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-fanview
["GET
