{"id":73072,"date":"2021-09-03T21:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-09-04T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=73072"},"modified":"2021-09-04T09:56:43","modified_gmt":"2021-09-04T16:56:43","slug":"big-night-for-niko-san-marino-defeats-el-monte-48-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=73072","title":{"rendered":"Big Night for Niko; San Marino Defeats El Monte 48-6"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Rich Whittington <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(El Monte) &#8211; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>San Marino quarterback Niko Mavridis celebrated a \u201cNight For The Ages\u201d Friday evening, leading the San Marino Titans to victory over the host El Monte Lions, 48-6, at El Monte\u2019s own Lions Stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n\n\n<p>Mavridis completed 19 of 27 pass attempts, for a total of 433 yards, and seven touchdowns. The Titans took control early, and did not look back, reaching the end zone on seven of their nine possessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>San Marino scored twice in the game\u2019s opening period. Mavridis connected with Andrew Hornberger for a 30-yard score with 6:00 to play. Mavridis would throw for another score in the first quarter connecting with Michael Prappas for a 20- yard score.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brady Beck converted both PAT attempts, making the score 14-0, San Marino after one quarter of play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The San Marino scoring continued into the second quarter, where the Titans would add another pair of scores. Mavridis connected with Jayan Anvekar for a 45-yard catch and run. He then found Hornberger for a 7-yard scoring connection. Beck added two more PAT\u2019s, bringing San Marino\u2019s scoring total to 28 points at halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El Monte\u2019s lone score came with 1:43 remaining in the first half as Joaquin Andrade scored on an 8-yard TD blast. The 2-point PAT attempt was stopped, making the score 28-6 at halftime. El Monte never  got on track in the contest. Turnovers and penalties stopped drives and caused the Lions to play the majority of the game from behind\u2026 and deep in their own territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The San Marino onslaught continued into quarter number 3. Another quarter, another pair of touchdowns. Marrdis Mikey Yessaian for a 25-yard TD. Mavridis also connected with Ryan Park for a 76- yard score. Two more Beck PAT\u2019s made the score 42-6, with one quarter remaining in the contest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>San Marino\u2019s final score of the evening came at the mid-point of the fourth quarter, when Mavridis found Jayden Hollomand for a 94-yard Touchdown. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El Monte\u2019s next game is scheduled for Thursday when the Lions will travel to Alta Loma to play the Braves. San Marino\u2019s next contest is Friday as the Titans will host the Fillmore Flashes.
