As a survivor of nearly twenty years of firework stand duty, 16 to be exact, I feel your pain. Boosters, assistants, alumni right now are listening to a radio, a fan is blowing through one door, the grime and gunpowder is getting under their fingernails…and now that it\u2019s so close to the Fourth there\u2019s some overweight, baldheaded, bozo wanting you to cut him a deal.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll tell you what, why don\u2019t you sell me two American Eagle assortments for the price of one…You\u2019re gonna have to take it back anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n

Note to the Exhausted Firework Stand Employee: Don\u2019t make that deal until the closing minutes on the Fourth. He\u2019s right you\u2019re gonna have to return it if you don\u2019t sell it, but usually everything is a hundred percent mark up. Just wait…Because I guarantee you some psychopath with a deep desire to put his eye out and cover his body with third degree burns is going to show up and pay full price.<\/p>\n

Final Note: If you\u2019ve got a live one, and he\u2019s hesitating on a big deal…Waive the tax and watch his eyes light up. He burns a few less dollars and thinks you\u2019re a hero while you fail to remind him everything is marked up big time.<\/p>\n

…Or it used to be. I spend my Fourth of July\u2019s these days either at a youth camp or in a hospital…what do I know…<\/p>\n

Last Final Note: Only send somebody out to get food with direct orders…Don\u2019t tell someone to pick you up something on the way back. Their way back might include a stop at the gas station, Sam\u2019s Club, and a quick change into shorts because its so hot.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll be left with cold fries, a soda with melted ice, and something resembling a hamburger in another edible life.<\/p>\n

I know…Bad News Barker and I told our Youth Pastor back in the day we were going to McDonalds and instead went to see Bachelor Party. Needless to say it was a chilly reception when we returned to spend the night in the motor home six hours later.<\/p>\n

Not making predictions, but Walnut at least during the summer toss season has looked pretty good with Brandon Roach at quarterback. One more thing, he\u2019s throwing to more than just Aubrey Coleman too. Keep the Mustangs in your periphery…then in case things don\u2019t go well you can Peterson your way out of it by saying you weren\u2019t focused on them in the first place…only in the periphery.<\/p>\n

Note to the Southeast: On a roster featuring 53 players last season, Mayfair (your new neighbors in the Suburban Meyer League) returns 37 of them. Most know about about DI prospect Evan Hunko at quarterback, but surrounding him are at least six trenchmen who go 260 or better and Dominique Small (1,112-yards, 15 touchdowns) at running back.<\/p>\n

The Monsoons also have a middle linebacker, Bryan Kvapil, who falls into the \u201cBeast\u201d category.<\/p>\n

Speaking of Quarterbacks: Word out of Maranatha is that sophomore Andrew Ellfers is having an excellent summer for the rebuilding Minutemen.<\/p>\n

Just a reminder, Maranatha is now competing in the Mid-Valley Division as part of the Olympic League…Also its rivalry with La Salle (September 10, 2010 @ home) is becoming one of the area\u2019s best. Does it have a name though? Since they are two church schools maybe it should be called; “The Battle of the Board Room”…<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t think about it then, but when you walk eight and hit a batter in the \u2018process\u2019 of pitching a no-hitter…Shouldn\u2019t there be an asterisk next to it?<\/p>\n

Derek Fisher should take the Lakers offer and stay to close out his career as one of the greatest Lakers of all time…But the team\u2019s apparent deal with Steve Blake is a good one.<\/p>\n

Blake and I have been tight since Maryland won the NCAA\u2019s way back win.<\/p>\n

Journeyman quarterback Kyle Boller is apparently having a better off-season than Michael Vick. Boller has never led a scoring drive on the field in the NFL like the drive he put together to get Carrie Prejean to the altar.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve been missing Alhambra\u2019s workouts… Can somebody throw us a bone and tell us when they are out? Really want to check out the Wing-T HC Lou Torres is planning on running.<\/p>\n

I got this from a La Puente fan: \u201cHave have you seen that tall, skinny, white kid at San Dimas. He has hands!\u201d<\/p>\n

We care about him, we care about you…but mostly we care about ourselves…what are we going to be writing about if Steven Rivera goes down? Buy Singiser a steak, take him to Kelly\u2019s or Shady Brady\u2019s…get him a gift card to Barnes & Noble…but tell him to keep his big fat hands off your quarterback.<\/p>\n
