Brock Lesnar retained his title by forcing Shane Carwin into submission in the second round, while on the undercard Gerald Harris and Brendon Schuab had knockouts and Richardo Romero came back to tap out “Kimbo Killer” Seth Petruzelli.

Lesnar comes back to keep title;

The fight started off just the way Shane Carwin wanted – both fighters on their feet and throwing blows. Lesnar got caught early as he was rocked in the first with a hard Carwin punch. Carwin swooped right down on him and tried to finish the fight. Lesnar went to the ground and was getting pounded out. Lesnar was able to throw a couple of up kicks to stay alive long enough to get back to his feet. He didn’t take down Carwin, but Lesnar was able to stop the strikes and end the round against the cage in the clinch.

Carwin looked gassed going into the second round. Lesnar faked a punch and took Carwin right to the mat and got a half mount. Lesnar, trying to land a little ground and pound, got full mount and then jumped off when he locked in an arm triangle. It didn’t look tight at first but when Lesnar started sliding up he was able to have Carwin tap 2:19 into the second round.

Lesnar (5-1) is now the undisputed heavyweight champ and considered the number one heavyweight in the world. This was Carwin’s first fight that came out of the first round. He falls to 12-1.

Leben tapout Akiyama;

Chris Leben came in ready to strike but Yoshihiro Akiyama wasn’t having none of it and took it to the ground. Akiyama tried submission after submission in the first round but wasn’t able to lock anything in and Leben survived. In the second round Akiyama got the fight to the ground again and was landing some hard shots. Leben was dazed and got back to his feet and Akiyama came in for the kill. However Leben had his distance and landed a hard shot that rocked Akiyama. Both fighters survived the second round.

The third round Akiyama took the fight to the ground again but Leben was landing numerous elbows from the bottom. With only 25 seconds left in the bout Leben locked in a triangle choke and was able to tap out Akiyama in one of the best come backs of the year. Leben improved to 21-6 and Akiyama falls to 13-2.

Other bouts:

Chris Lytle def. Matt Brown by submission – Round 2

Stephan Bonnar def.
