La Canada Tight End Jay Kolina <\/p><\/div>\n

(La Canada) \u2013 We all know about Monrovia. The Wildcats have everybody coming back except Adam \u201cA Train\u201d Gabriel and James Davis. Barring an upset M-Town is the man in the Rio Hondo. But after that it gets rio interesting with La Canada right in the mix.<\/p>\n

The Spartans made the post season last year with a huge tie breaking playoff victory over Temple City. With several key players returning, LC has a good shot at CIF again.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe look pretty good so far. We\u2019ve been in some passing leagues but it\u2019s hard to tell where you\u2019re at sometimes in passing leagues,\u201d said La Canada Coach Dan Yoder. \u201cThe team seems like it\u2019s really coming together.<\/p>\n

Rocky Moore has graduated but Scott Gray, who was the back up quarterback last year, has assumed the starting role. Moore never missed a game so Gray spent most of his time at receiver and running back. He caught 12 passes for 73 yards and a touchdown.<\/p>\n

Running back Daleep Sandhu is a big part of the LC offense<\/p><\/div>\n

Daleep Sandhu, who led the team last season in rushing with over 600 yards, is back as the primary ball carrier. Sandhu has good hands catching the ball out of the backfield as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s always been an offensive guy for us. But this year we finding out he can play defense also. He\u2019s definitely going to play some D for us,\u201d Yoder said.<\/p>\n

Gray has a big target to throw to in returning tight end Jay Kolina who caught 23 balls a year ago. Jeff Barker is back at wide receiver along with Matt Alegria. Alegria, who sports a mohawk, is the Spartans\u2019 safety as well and occasionally lines up at tight end.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s one of our key guys. He does a lot of things for us,\u201d Yoder said.<\/p>\n

Luke Sanborn anchors the LC offensive line and will see time on the D line also. Another player that Yoder will be looking to for leadership is strong safety Bijan Arceo.<\/p>\n

With a powerhouse like Monrovia in the Rio Hondo every game is important for La Canada. The Spartans open with back to back home games with Alhambra and Glendale before traveling to Crescenta Valley. Then they\u2019re back home against Maranatha before hitting the road for Arroyo. Rio Hondo begins October 15 as LC hosts South Pas.<\/p>\n
