A win would put them at 2-1 and in second place in the Mountain West which could be enough for a playoff berth. The thought is nice but it won’t happen. Bonita is too strong and too athletic for the Chargers. The Bearcats will be the second place team with a big win here. Bonita rolls.

Bonita 35 Charter Oak 17

Monrovia (5-3) at San Marino (8-1)

Monrovia’s defense continues to get shredded. Last week the Wildcats allowed 22 to Pasadena Poly but prior to that they gave up 49 to La Canada, 56 to South Pasadena and over 50 earlier in the year to Northview and Bonita. If they give up that many again it will be tough to win. San Marino has a good front line and has played well on defense. The Titans held that same South Pas team that dropped 56 on Monrovia to just 7 points in a 10-7 win. Ultimately it will be another shootout but San Marino will make the necessary stops when it needs to. San Marino wins the Rio Hondo.

San Marino 35 Monrovia 28

Diamond Ranch (7-2) at Northview (8-1) (Covina District Field)

Diamond Ranch stumbled last week to San Dimas while Northview continues to roll. The Vikings look like the best team in the Valle Vista as well one of the best in the entire SGV. A couple of weeks ago Los Altos took Diamond Ranch to overtime before losing 14-7. Last week Northview beat the Conquerors 48-13. The Vikings are at another level. Northview wins the Valle Vista.

Northview 31 Diamond Ranch 14

Wilson (8-1) at Baldwin Park (4-5)

Baldwin Park, like Charter Oak, can save its season with a victory. The Braves are 3-6 on the field overall (4-5 with a forfeit) but are 2-0 in the Mt. Baldy with wins over Montclair and Sierra Vista. A win here and they will be undefeated league champions. But it will be a tall task. Wilson has won five straight on the field (eight straight with a forfeit) and is playing good football. The Wildcats have been racking up the points as well as the wins. It will be an offensive battle as both teams can score but in the end Wilson spoils the BP party. Wildcats win.

Wilson 38 Baldwin Park 35

Friday October 27

Schurr (8-1) at Montebello (4-5)

One of the best rivalries in the area with the two schools being maybe a nine iron apart. With the players on both teams knowing each other so well the emotions are always high. With that being said this might be a tough night for Montebello- the Montebello Oliers that is. Schurr hasn’t lost since August 18th, and that was to a solid South Pasadena team. The Spartans have ripped off eight straight wins since and have been having a blast in the process. Schurr has scored 50 or more points four times and once scored over 60. The Oilers won’t be able to make enough stops. Spartans win big.

Schurr 42 Montebello 13

Claremont (1-8) at Don Lugo (3-6)

Don Lugo is yet another team that can salvage its season with a win. The Conquistadores were 1-6 coming into San Antonio League play but have scored 93 points in their last two games to win two straight, including last week’s 41-40 win over a good West Covina team. Claremont just won its first game last week, 17-12 over Chaffey. We know Don Lugo’s offense is explosive and in this one the defense will make enough stops. Don Lugo finishes the season 4-6 overall but 3-0 in league and will be crowned San Antonio champs. Conquistadores get the W.

Don Lugo 45 Claremont 27

San Dimas (5-4) at Los Altos (5-4)

Big game in the Valle Vista. San Dimas trying to go 2-1 in league while Los Altos needs to get its first league win. The Saints got a big win last week over Diamond Ranch while the Conqs were run over by Northview. San Dimas will bring that same approach. The Saints will run it until the wheels fall off. Eventually they will wear Los Altos down. Caleb Morquecho is on fire. Saints run their way to the victory.

San Dimas 24 Los Altos 17

Whittier Christian (6-3) at Maranatha (8-1)

This reminds me of one of those old Olympic League battles. Maybe Andrew Elffers will throw a clutch touchdown pass for Maranatha or Jeff Worthy will come up with a big stop for Whittier Christian. Well that was the Olympic and this is the Cottonwood. And this year both teams are 4-0 in league and will play for the Cottonwood title Friday night. Maranatha has scored 105 points in its last two games and the Minutemen haven’t lost in a minute…well since August 24th. They have won seven straight since. Whittier Christian has also been rolling in league and has won six consecutive games. The scoreboard operator will get a workout as both teams can light it up. The game is at the bounce and pounce so we will give Maranatha the home field advantage…and the victory. Maranatha takes the Cottonwood.

Maranatha 41 Whittier Christian 24

Quick Hits

Wednesday October 25

Muir vs. Pasadena (Turkey Tussle-Rose Bowl) – Muir

Thursday October 26

Rancho Cucamonga at Upland – Rancho Cucamonga

Hoover at Glendale – Glendale

Friday October 27

St. Francis at St. Paul – St. Francis

Colony at Glendora (Citrus College) – Colony

Nogales at Walnut – Walnut

Arroyo at Rosemead – Arroyo wins by forfeit

El Monte at Gabrielino – El Monte wins by forfeit

South El Monte at Mt.
