{"id":8261,"date":"2010-08-16T09:12:18","date_gmt":"2010-08-16T16:12:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=8261"},"modified":"2010-08-16T09:14:11","modified_gmt":"2010-08-16T16:14:11","slug":"fanview-lite-august-16-2010","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=8261","title":{"rendered":"Fanview Lite: August 16, 2010"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_8262\" style=\"width: 262px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-8262\" href=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?attachment_id=8262\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8262\" class=\"size-large wp-image-8262  \" title=\"DSC_0051\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/DSC_0051-525x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"252\" height=\"369\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-8262\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Yes, victory, or defeat, in the Smudge Pot really does mean something.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>T-Minus-24 Days until \u201cThe Mid Valley Classic\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Good Morning!<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Smudge Pot #1: November 17, 1972 at Bonita.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>During the course of the football season Bonita had been using a Turkish battle cry; <em>\u201cAzizleri Hakla!\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>It wasn\u2019t until halftime of the first Smudge Pot game with San Dimas that its meaning was announced; <em>\u201cBeat the Saints!\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Didn\u2019t work. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>After a scoreless first quarter, SD\u2019s Wayne Moses returned a punt 63-yards for the first touchdown of the game and this intense rivalry. In third quarter Moses ran 28-yards for another touchdown to make it 14-0 San Dimas.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Things went from bad to worse for the Bearcats when punter Harold Drake had a snap sail over his head. Scooping up the ball his attempt at a kick was blocked by Tony Perez and recovered by Randy Spahr, who returned it 23-yards to paydirt.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Down three scores, Bonita was forced into another punting situation. This time Drake\u2019s punt hit his up-back, SD\u2019s Bob Rollins picked up the ball and went in for the game\u2019s fourth touchdown.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In the fourth quarter, after Dave Johnson intercepted a Bearcat pass by Bruce McNaught (2 of 15 for 28-yards), San Dimas quarterback Steve Barnard hit John Kerfoot from 14-yards for another score.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bonita would collect only three first downs the entire night as it finished the season 2-7.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>San Dimas finished 3-4 in the Hacienda League, 5-4 overall.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Amazing what a little research can turn up on the Smudge Pot game&#8230;I am totally bought it&#8230;Staff assignments done for zero week&#8230;Others took San Gabriel-Muir, Rowland-Baldwin Park, and that game between Charter Oak and Glendora&#8230;I took the Smudge&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Now if I can only get some preferred parking&#8230;Perhaps Podley can work something out for me&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Monday night\u2019s lineup for \u201cRush Week\u201d (August 23) includes Jim Singiser, Matt Koffler, and Whittier Christian HC Sergio Gradilla and DC Pete Karavedas.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t know, I kind of liked the video. Bag on me if you didn\u2019t like the El Monte video, but saying the Lions will have a bad season or good season based on 2:44 clip is like saying Tim Tebow will be rookie of the year in the NFL just because he scored a touchdown last night.<\/p>\n<p>Of course that\u2019s one more touchdown offensively in one game than the Dallas Cowboys have scored in two games and eight quarters this preseason. Smile.<\/p>\n<p>Folks really seem to like Bell Gardens chances this season. I like them too, there\u2019s just a lot of congestion at the top of the Almont.<\/p>\n<p>With the Dodgers ten games out now, I\u2019m still waiting for the Padre collapse that was supposed to have arrived about a month or so ago&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Final Add Dodgers: Matt Kemp is one of the few reasons to watch the team play, mistake to trade him.
