Danny Resendez leads a devastating ground game and quarterback Fabian Marez does a good job in running the offense. But Northview can score too…and score some more. The Vikings are coming off a big win in Las Vegas as Keanu Tauvao and Erik Jimenez did their thing. It may be over quick as both teams like to pound it. South Hills is solid but not quite there yet with Northview. The Vikings come out on top.

Northview 27 South Hills 20

Friday August 30

Arcadia (0-0) at South Pasadena (0-1)

South Pasadena struggled last week offensively in a 28-0 loss to Schurr. Arcadia is ready to kick off the Eric Elias era. The Apaches jump on top early and never look back. Arcadia opens the season with a victory.

Arcadia 24 South Pasadena 7

Bishop Amat (1-0) at St. Paul (1-0)

The Game of the Week will take place at “The Pit” at St. Paul. The Swordsmen beat a solid Newport Harbor team last week while Bishop Amat routed West Covina. Last year Amat survived a one-point win at home 29-28. It should come down to the end again with the team that avoids mistakes getting the win. Bishop Amat quarterback Frankie Villalbazo is the real deal. Him and Ryan Salcedo make the offense go. The Lancers get the W.

Bishop Amat 31 St. Paul 28

Chino Hills (1-0) at Charter Oak (1-0)

Charter Oak lived up to the summer hype last week with a big win over Canyon. Chino Hills got a good solid win over Glendora. The Huskies will bring more defensively than Canyon did last week but they still need to stop the Chargers. And the Chargers, in case you’ve been living under a rock, have a lot of weapons. Charter Oak goes to 2-0.

Charter Oak 27 Chino Hills 17

Baldwin Park (0-1) at Covina (1-0) (Covina District Field)

Baldwin Park can move the ball on offense. We knew about quarterback Jacob Garcia but the Braves have a nice back as well in Mark Carbajal. The problem was BP had trouble making stops in a 52-29 loss to South Hills. Covina’s offense was in mid-season form in a 51-14 thrashing of Cal. Four-year starting quarterback Jake Duronslet and receiver Matty Olivas keep the offense humming. The Colts should continue to roll this week. Covina gets the victory.

Covina 38 Baldwin Park 21

Los Altos (1-0) at West Covina (0-1)

Credit to West Covina for taking the game last week. It’s not easy going into Bishop Amat and coming out unscathed. Los Altos got the win and a shutout last week over Wilson. The Bulldogs can run it. They need to get Zander Requena going. Los Altos’ defense did the job last week but can the Conqs stop West Covina’s running attack this week? The Bulldogs grind out a win.

West Covina 21 Los Altos 13

Mayfair (0-1) at Diamond Ranch (0-1)

Good matchup in Week 1. Both teams need to bounce back after opening night losses. Mayfair got lit up by an explosive Yorba Linda squad 49-21 while Diamond Ranch fell to Claremont 19-14. Pretty even contest. Might come down to a field goal in the fourth quarter. Jeremiah Calvin makes a play for the Monsoons late.

Mayfair 24 Diamond Ranch 21

Pasadena (0-1) at San Dimas (1-0)

Hype Grand’s ineligibility changed everything for Pasadena. All summer the offense is built around a talented quarterback who can throw and run and suddenly he’s gone. Pasadena dropped its opener to Cantwell and it won’t get any better this week. San Dimas ran over Burbank last week. The Saints are going to do what they do – run the ball, chew up yardage and dominate up front. And without Grand it will be tough for the Bulldogs to answer. San Dimas rolls.

San Dimas 35 Pasadena 7

Quick Hits

Friday August 30

Eagle Rock (1-0) at Monrovia (1-0) – Monrovia

Alhambra (0-1) at El Monte (1-0) – El Monte

Cantwell (1-0) at Montebello (0-1) – Cantwell

Temple City (1-0) at Gabrielino (0-1) – Temple City

La Canada (1-0) at Crescenta Valley (0-0) (Glendale) – Crescenta Valley

La Serna (0-1) at Schurr (0-1) – La Serna

Sierra Vista (0-1) at Arroyo (0-1) – Arroyo

[12816,3

post-85259","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-hsfootball","category-high-school-sports
["GET
