(Monrovia) – The Temple City Rams scored on their first four possessions to take a 28-0 halftime lead before settling for a 28-14 win over the Alhambra Moors in a game played Friday night at Monrovia High School.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

Sophomore quarterback Jake Leones was a model of efficiency for the Rams, completing 10 of 13 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His leading receiver was senior Jadon Griffin, who made seven catches for 204 yards, including a 25-yard scoring grab which put Temple City ahead, 21-0, with just over five minutes to go before the intermission. Griffin was also a perfect four-for-four on his extra-point tries.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Senior Noah Fry scored two of the three times he touched the ball, running 15 yards for a touchdown on an end-around and catching a nine-yard TD pass from the Rams’ backup QB, Josh Jones.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wide receiver Judah Douglas, also a senior, caught three passes for 97 yards, scoring on a 65-yard throw from Leones on the Rams’ first series. His 35-yard reception set up Fry’s TD run, which enabled Temple City to take a 14-0 lead late in the first quarter.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Unfortunately Douglas suffered an ankle injury while blocking for Fry on that run. Douglas was transported to the hospital, and it was reported that he’ll be out of action for at least a few weeks.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Rams piled up 396 yards in total offense, to 282 yards for Alhambra. Most of the Moors’ offense was generated by junior quarterback Bryan Leonard, who connected on 13 of 26 passes for 201 yards and two third-quarter scores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mistakes by the Moors played a big part in Temple City’s first-half outburst. A running-into-the-punter penalty against Alhambra led to the Rams’ second touchdown, and an interception thrown by Leonard early in the second quarter set up an 88-yard drive which gave Temple City its next score.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Rams raised their overall record to 3-0, while Alhambra dropped to 1-2; the Moors’ only win so far this season is a forfeit victory over the El Monte Lions.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
