Alhambra gave Roosevelt a scare before falling by a field goal. La Canada took zero week off getting ready for the Moors.<\/p>\n

The Spartans have some weapons in new quarterback Scott Gray, running back Daleep Sandhu and tight end Jay Kolina. The Moors are still young. They might have trouble keeping up.<\/p>\n

Gladstone (0-0) at Covina (1-0) (Covina District Field)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Colts are coming off a huge comeback victory over West Covina. Keep an eye on Gevontray Ainsworth. He\u2019s a beast.<\/p>\n

Gladstone lost quarterback Paul Flores and now Andres \u201cPeanut\u201d Uribe has taken over.<\/p>\n

Covina won\u2019t have to rally to win this one. Billy Livingston and company will be too much for the Glads.<\/p>\n

The Lions looked good in summer. Of course so did 50 other teams. The talent seems to be there with Manuel Santa Cruz beginning his first full year at quarterback.<\/p>\n

The LP offense will revolve around running back Jose Perez. Coach Brandon Roher turned things around for the Warriors last year.<\/p>\n

Lions get off on the right track.<\/p>\n

Last Year: Arroyo 27 Temple City 24<\/strong><\/p>\n

All-Time: Temple City 16-15<\/strong><\/p>\n

Arroyo should get even all time with a win this year in the Mid Valley Classic. While nearly everyone is back for the Knights, the Rams are still breaking in a new coach.<\/p>\n

Arroyo will ride Steven Rivera\u2019s big left arm to victory.<\/p>\n

Interesting matchup: Ram O-lineman Michael Bassette vs. the Arroyo defensive line.<\/p>\n

Arroyo wins but TC will make them work.<\/p>\n

Arroyo 31 Temple City 17<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last Year: Bell Gardens 34-6<\/strong><\/p>\n

Good test for both teams early. Azusa needs a win to prove last year\u2019s run was no fluke. BG needs a win to prove it belongs in the Southeast\/Almont League mix.<\/p>\n

Last year\u2019s BG blowout was a surprise. Nobody expected the Lancers to run all over Azusa. I don\u2019t expect that to happen this year. I like Abraham Ochoa and Joe Scherf\u2019s Aztecs.<\/p>\n

Monrovia (0-0) at Glendora (1-0) at Citrus College<\/strong><\/p>\n

Charter Oak lost a lot from the 2009 CIF Southeast Championship team. While six players have signed to play Division 1 college football, Coach Lou Farrar has likened it to losing 12 players because they all went both ways. The Chargers turned the ball over four times and lost to the Tartans by a touchdown last week.<\/p>\n

Monrovia has a ton of talent back from a team that advanced to the CIF Finals before falling to San Dimas. We know Nick Bueno can run and now he has shown that he can pass too.<\/p>\n

The M-Town defense will have its work cut out containing Glendora quarterback Chad Jeffries. I just don\u2019t know of the Cats can do it for four quarters. Glendora holds on late.<\/p>\n

Montebello (0-1) at Rosemead (0-0)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Oilers offense struggled in a zero week loss to Bellflower as well as the week before in a scrimmage against Los Altos.<\/p>\n

Rosemead might not score a ton of points but the Panthers won\u2019t have to. If they line up double tights and pound Matt Fregoso they should be fine.<\/p>\n

San Dimas (0-1) at South El Monte (0-0)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last Year: San Dimas 56 South El Monte 0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Saints gave up 41 points in a loss to Bonita last week in the Smudge Pot. It was ugly and maybe a little disappointing from Coach Bill Zernickow\u2019s view. But South El Monte isn\u2019t Bonita.<\/p>\n

The Saints will be chomping at the bit to make things right and unfortunately it\u2019s the Eagles who will have to pay. It got out of hand last year and it might again.<\/p>\n

South needs a score early to stay in the hunt.<\/p>\n

San Dimas 34 South El Monte 13<\/strong><\/p>\n

South Hills (0-0) at Baldwin Park (0-1)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Give credit to BP Coach James Heggins and staff for scheduling up. Last week the Braves get Rowland and now the Huskies. After Cantwell next week, they host Bonita in week four. Wow!<\/p>\n

But if the Braves had trouble containing Rowland, they\u2019ll have their work cut out with South Hills. The Huskies have plenty of arsenal with Vince Hernandez, Jordan Gutierrez and Jamal Hart. They will miss Jamie Canada though who could be out for the year.<\/p>\n

Quarterback Mario Rodriguez had a nice game for Baldwin Park in the loss to Rowland.<\/p>\n

South Hills gets it done.<\/p>\n

It will be the Matadors turn to be on the right side of a rout. What Muir did to SG last week will happen again to a Mustang opponent this season.<\/p>\n

South Pasadena has Conor Bednarski but after that? Mats win going away.<\/p>\n
